Harbor Freight Cross Vise For Metal Work On A Wood Lathe!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I needed to to machine down a coupler for use in an electric motor build I'm working on. But, I don't have a metal lathe. I do have a wood lathe though and wanted to try using a cheap cross vise for the project. It did the job!
Thanks for taking a look.

“Rube Goldberg” would be proud. Interesting set up. I have a picture of my bicycle suspended between a farm tractor and a diesel F350 trying to get the seat post out so I feel your pain!

Thanks. Ha. I can see you doing that. If it works it works. I will get a metal lathe at some point. And a welder too.

would be nice to see an indicator on the face or at least a closeup to get some sense of the accuracy you achieved.

Thanks for your comments. This was a stop gap fudge hack to kind of level off a coupler. It worked okay if you take small sections off slowly. It's certainly not a replacement for a real metal lathe but in a pinch can work adequately well.

How did you get 500rpm? Pulley change, potentiometer, VFD? Thanks 😊
