One problem you may be having is that the balancer shaft isn't tight enough and is moving slightly, tighten the nut on the shaft and try again. Another problem could be that the floor the balancer is on isn't perfectly flat and allowing the balancer to move slightly. Check your floor for flatness and push down on the balancer base to make sure there is no movement.

Even modern tyre shops cant balance wheels properly. Youre dealing with machines that dont get calibrated regularly, staff that arent trained correctly, and also one major factor is that staff at these shops just slap weights on without cleaning the wheel surface. Wheel balancing is an art. And i truly believe its something that manufacturers need to address in order to supply a product affordable and accurate enough to do the job at home. For the record, i hate bringing my car to a tyre shop. Most of them have no clue how to care for a vehicle.

You can go to your local machine shop and have them turn you a steel disc about 14" or so with what ever size center hole to fit your balancer, Thickness about .5" or so whatever you feel comfotable lifting. Basically just consider this a standard to check your balancer each time you set up and this should never change out of balance , same as a weight standard for calibrating a scale. And this would be a one time purchase, and rub on some paste wax to prevent rust, not paint because drips or runs could put out of balance. Best tire balance method is old school tire/wheel on vehicle which balances rotor , lug nuts and and other componants which are rotating with the wheel. But can change if wheel is ever removed and besides nobody has used this method since probably the 70s. Nowadays some people working in shops cant put their cell phones down long enough to master these skills whether its bubble or computer balancer anyway thanks to new age A.I. A local cashier could not count my change without help from their cash register. Maybe their bubble was a little off center. lol P.S Also disk is easily stored under balancer when not in use Thanks M L Rogers Pasadena,TX

If you're turning the wheel and the bubble goes from good to bad then you should check the bubble balancer first. You could be off-balanced or not leveled, and so could your wheel.

It specifically tells you in the instructions not to spin the tire on the bubble balancer because you'll mess up the pin or the balancer pin receiver. You level the balancer and place your wheel on it, but do not spin it.

It should work 100% if you calibrate the center bubble for a single plane. This balancer does not measure rotational balance, so if you change the orientation of the cone, then you absolutely will need to recalibrate the bubble. Spinning the cone 90º and showing that the bubble is then not centered is exactly what should be expected. It does not mean the unit is not correct. Calibrate, then balance without spinning. Then afterwards, if you want, turn the cone to whatever amount you want, recalibrate the bubble, then re-check the wheel/tire. If it's off by a minute amount, that's the differential you need to worry about- even tho you'd probably never feel that little vibration.

But , the cone should be balanced already - if it is not, then it is going to introduce it's own set errors. If cone is balanced, it should make no difference on it's rotational position.

@@pingpong9656 The cone may be balanced, but the inside of the cone or the point the cone sits on are not hardened or precision ground. The cone will not sit precisely the same in different rotational orientations.

There are buble balancers that have screws to center the buble before you put a wheel on it because the problem is if your surface where the buble balancer sits is slightly uneven it will give issues.

If a new tire that is being mounted its best if you pu t both dots in the right spot where they are supposed to be at...inflate the tire once that is done you reinflate it drops the amount of weight needed to balance and sometimes will not need to be balanced...what this does is like a balloon it stretches the rubber making it easier for air to be equaled out evenly inside of tire but must be do e before tire is put onto car and tire must be new

I at one time in my life calibrated wheel balancers. They're only as good as what their calibrated at. Every time a tire changer uses balance a tire and then flips the guard up and it slams into the guard stop your machines calibration is thrown off. The reason why your bubble balancer will change when you turn it is that it's adjusted in that position so mark and align the hub and base to get an accurate balance. Never slam tire on balancer and never hammer weights on balancer. Use sticky back weights and both your computer balancer and or bubble balancer will thank you.

@@BlatentlyFakeName a bubble balancer that spun the wheel would never give you any accurate information as that bubble would continuously move. I balance tires in a shop. Bubble balancers are pretty bogus as far as precision but it will get u in the ball park. The thing about tires is they can be unbalanced in more than 1 plane. Bubble balancers only do 1 plane. U cant sit that tire upright and tell if there is more weight on the front side than the rear side but the machine i use in the shop can. Just balanced tires yesterday and 1 tire needed 6 ounces on the rear inside of the rim and i had to put a 2 ounce clip on the front outside of the rim.

The biggest problem with a bubble balancer (regardless of quality) is that it is only capable of a static balance, whereas the shop's machine does a dynamic balance. Dynamic balance balances the inside and outside planes of the wheel independently, but a static balance basically balances the tire as if it were a 2D disc-even though a tire-wheel assembly is roughly cylindrical. On most car wheels, you'll find weights on both the inside rim and on the outside (or as close to the outside as possible, if they cannot be hammered onto the face of the wheel). On a bubble balancer, some people mitigate this by dividing weight between the inside and outside, but usually the inside and outside need weight at completely different points of the circle to achieve a dynamic balance. The difference between the DIY methods and the shop is solving a 3D imbalance with a 3D or 2D solution.

The issue he fails to explain is: Wheel will, 100% of the time has balance issues NOT only top or bottom, but on inner or outer side. Computer can tell which side needs how much weight and where. Thats why you get 2 weights on both sides most of the time. Your wheel may not jump up and down after balancing it your self, but side to side shaking may occur. Solution ? Yes. You need to spin the wheel on a cone inside small hole so that cone will not wonder around. Wheel will shake up and down. Move a marker closer to the edge of the wheel and slowly move marker closer to the wheel edge. As wheel wobbles, it will touch the marker only in the heaviest area. This method does not tell you if that area needs weight inside or out, it just gives you a general idea of where to try. It doesnt tell you how much weight to try either so yo u have to try over and over. If you have time, good luck. Otherwise pay up. For those who dont experience any shaking at your normal highway speeds, dont bother balancing your tires at all. 90% of all motorcycles dont balance except for fast sport bikes because they go over 90 on a regular basis.

Decent Video, but your conclusion at the end is erroneous. It is certainly possible to statically balance a tire accurately, just because you could not find a way to do it, does not mean it can't be done. The concept of static balance is quite simple: The radial axis of a tire and rim assembly must be perpendicular to the horizon line, in all quadrants (plumb) when the tire and rim assembly is suspended horizontally by its exact center point (the location of the radial axis). I totally agree that those conditions cannot be accurately met with a Harbor Freight balancer, nor can they be met with a ball. I actually made a KZread short that demonstrates a way to meet the conditions of the concept of static balance. Now I am not saying that the method I demonstrated in my short is the only way, best way or most accurate way (only accurate to 1/4 ounce), However it does prove that it is possible to statically balance a tire and rim assembly with a fair degree of accuracy through simple means (even the most expensive electronic motorized dynamic balancers are only accurate to 1/4 ounce) which brings up two more points. #1 dynamic balancing is not perfect, but no one would argue it is superior to static balancing if done right, because dynamic balancing also takes into the difference in balance on the sides of the tire/ rim. #2 Even if you balance a tire and rim assembly perfectly accurately by the strictest criteria you still have to install it on your car to use it. Once you do that the tire and rim assembly become a tire, rim, hub and rotor or drum assembly so that perfect balance will only be maintained if all those other components are perfectly balanced. Truth is once you bolt the tire on your car dynamic balance loses its advantage to static balance since the axis of the rim is secured to the axis of the axel and the tire is supported by the ground, the tire is extremely limited in its ability to move from side to side, so the difference in balance from side to side becomes relatively inconsequential.

Every time I use the bubble balancer I had that little wobble on the steering wheel that was really annoying maybe because my car is really small and it can feel the vibrations on a big truck maybe you don't feel it as much because it's just like vibrating by itself because of the tires already anyways but on a smooth ride like a small car bubble balance which doesn't do justice
