Well, the cameraman never dies, thank God! 😂 I just make it a common sense rule to stay out of the line of cables, ropes, and spinning belts/fans. There's been people killed sitting in trucks/Jeeps using hand-held remote and the hook or cable goes right through the windshield. I know a guy who almost lost/ his ear when the cable grazed his face. Just saying, be careful even if it's brand new. Put a blanket across the line or a jacket if nothing else. 👍

A winch is a winch as they're all the same, but buy the weight capacity you going to use it for as they're the simplest things to fix when they break. Wouldn't hurt to use a snatch block either.

@@MrJustDIY Thanks. I bought a 2500 lb winch and never used it till about a year later and all I hear is the relay clicking but no pulling from the winch. I plan on using an aftermarket wired remote which doesn't require the solenoid. Always test out the winch before installing and after installing. That's my life lesson.

If i was going to go through the trouble to set up and bolt on a winch like that i would have gone to a 10K because a 5K is at the top of that unit capability and most trucks and SUV's will me over that, and if they are stuck, they will not pull so easy.

It is a rolling load, and, you can double capacity with a snatch block. For loading a trailer this size should be fine. I was thinking about the badlands 9000 lb but it weighs 75 lbs plus whatever the mount weights. This 5000 lb winch is 33 lbs. I am not going to keep it mounted on the trailer I and going with a trailer hitch receiver type mount. The weight made the decision for me as I need to mount and dismount the thing as needed. Don't want this winch out in the weather and don't want it being a thief magnet.

(CAUTION:probly longest and boringest comment you have encountered. PTSD writes em, I just hold the tablet. Maybe there is a thing or two helpful to someone. IF it ever gets read. I have too much info and experiences stored up) Just saw one of these in a pawn shop, looked new, askin price $170 so was checkin the net for new prices. Looks like around $200. Was just in Harbor Freight but forgot to check but found cool adapter for floor jack that looks that piece on big shop lifts that they use to Jack up vehicles ON the lift if you have seen that. Adjusts for width with two lift points. No disrespect but having the vehicle you're loading closer to the ramps saves time and work on the winch. Also if you use....damnit, can't think of name, but put that pulley thing on the vehicle end, run cable thru it and bring end of cable back to the winch mounting plate it doubles the pulling power of the winch and less strain on motor. If you have enough cable to reach. Good video. Also, I usually run power from tow vehicle to that battery to keep it charged and not run it down while usin winch. Winch runs faster also. Or just straight to the winch and no trailer mounted battery. Thieves love that battery and anything else in there with it. I think I've hauled vehicles more miles than I've driven them in 45 years of hot roddin and regular rides just breaking down. Been beyond lucky/blessed with just one trailer flat/blowout in all those miles. This will start a debate but I run regular radial automobile tires on my trailers instead of "trailer" tires. My logic is if the tire is designed to operate safely on something you're driving and support the weight and speeds then it should do better on trailers also. The one flat tire in easily over 100,000 miles of trailering with several trailers speaks for itself. As police officer and just me I've helped many, many folks on the interstate with trailer tire blow outs. Kinda amazing at number of them without spares. You do good video so if you haven't already done one maybe you could do vid on trailer safety. Like not loading "hitch light". Trailer is lifting the back of tow vehicle. Proper use of tie downs and how majorly important tire pressure is, on all vehicles but especially on trailer tires. Also to check the trailer wheel bearings for grease amount. Those trailer tires are going the same speed you are and if using smaller trailer wheels and tires they may be turning twice as fast as you are goin. That bearing grease is the only lubricant they have and once it's gone the bearing can seize up and/or the wheel comes off. All ya'll have seen that trailer sitting on the side if the road missing a wheel. Probly wasn't loose lug nuts altho those are important also. Trailering seems such a simple thing to do but there are so many things to check and that can go wrong. Worstest of all is having too small or under powered tow vehicle. We've all seen the car or truck with back end bout touching the ground and front wheels barely touching the ground trying to pull too much trailer and load. I once tried to help a family moving to another state and the man had all his shop equipment, tools, two motorcycles and several engines in a trailer rated for the two motorcycles and some gear. He had already had 5 blowouts before I met them. His wife was in tears. They were about to have to cross Monteagle Mtn and had over 200 miles to go. How do you help someone like that. Seemed like a smart dude but the trailer was so heavy his jack and mine couldn't lift it. Asked him how he had changed the other times....."I unloaded stuff till I could jack it up" Guess he wasn't as smart as he looked. When I left he was unloading the motorcycles. Sorry for stupidly long comment. PTSD and me. Guess it's what I do when I can't sleep. Like now at 1:23am. CST. rick in Tennessee.
