Might it have something to do with the War on Terror and invasion of Iraq that was undertaken specifically to destabilize Syria? The West’s own policies caused all these issues. It’s called “Blowback”. P.S., those Middle Easterners might not immediately assimilate, but their kids will. When I lived in Alaska, my conservative neighbor was a former state legislator who looked and sounded like any other old guy in Alaska. His name was Mitch Abood and he was completely Middle Eastern by heritage. First generation immigrants are always slow to assimilate and tend to try to hold onto their heritage; but their kids always go the opposite way. Tripping about immigrants is just typical racism.

He has called for infrastructure repairs to be financed by a public-private partnership that would require American taxpayers to pay tolls to use the roads they already paid for. His EPA director reversed an Obama-era ban on a pesticide that has been proved to cause brain damage in children. He tried to upstage Queen Elizabeth - but, good for her, she put him in his place, quickly and immediately. He shoved a government official out of the way in order to push himself through to the camera! I don’t feel like looking up the name of the official. Trump has for years inaccurately described how NATO funding works. NATO has a target that each member country spends a minimum of 2% of gross domestic product on defense, and most countries are not meeting that target. But the figure is a guideline and not a binding contract, and it does not create “bills”; member countries haven’t been failing to pay their share of NATO’s common budget to run the organization.

People can feel.a cultural shift happening from western civilization to middle eastern. The unique European cultures in each country are being overrun with illegal immigrants. Part of that cultural shift is the fault of the citizens themselves -europeans aren't having babies, so their population is being replaced with those that have high birth rates: Africans and Muslims. But illegal immigration is a huge problem and those on the left attempt to either excuse it, downplay it, or apologise for it. Take DRASTIC action and drastic laws to fix illegal immigration and so many would switch to vote left.

So i am an independent, ive voted both ways and both sides as a husband and father of 6, I am a very hard working dad as a commercial / industrial electrician for 13 years now. I was extremely busy with work and it was in abundance from all the major companys handling work orders for Walmart, home Depot, Target, lowes, exc 60+ hr minimum everyweek m-f when (Donald) was in office. Sense day 1 of Biden everything work related on work orders submitted has dried up these big companies dont have the same budgets they did back then and people had more money to spend which gave them the budgets issuing more work, not to mention gas is higher, my dollar doesn't go nearly as far.😮‍💨 So ive had the chance to really pay close attention on how my families lives were effected and as a father i have to go with who's policy's benefited me the most.

I am not sure it will be reversed. Britain can decide to leave but they can not decide to go back. That only happens after a whole bunch of other countries decide to let them back in to the club.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. These gains were NOT a surprise (particularly here in Germany). Our Traffic Light coalition in power is a wash-out and will be replaced at next year's general election due to dithering and internal bickering. The EU elections are frequently for people we vote for and never see or hear from again. As such, perfect territory for protest votes. Also, since the last elections, there has been a war on our doorstep - people are often saying "What's more important? Defending our borders or recycling more stuff?" and then it is no surprise that people have become cagey. Brexit was a sham (and has come back to bite the Conservatives who are about to be almost wiped out in the UK), due to, oh, protest votes (people thinking they could protest and their vote not counting because they hadn't listened that *every* vote counted as it was not being done by electoral district but simply a Yes/No national vote). As such, a little bit of caution should be made by the US in making such sweeping statements. There are other factors at work here.

@davewhitehead8601 Sounds reasonable - except the (A)socials (f)or (D)emagogues are about unfurling the flag of the Kremlin over the Bundestag and Kanzleramt, not about defending borders against vlad putrid. Most of the "legitimate" reasons people give for voting far right (immigration, economy, etc.) is a pretense for something else.

The worst thing about the Brexit vote was that it was so close: 51/49. In matters of such moment, a 60% majority should be required. As you say, many "remain" voters stayed at home, considering their votes unnecessary.

European here. It wasn't a shock at all. Right wing government's have been winning a lot in their own elections inside European countries.

All kinds of people are afraid to be thrown in prison and they should know what they did. Treasonous behaviors are being arrested all over the world. It is not revenge, it is the law. There must be accountability.

Before the election a big rightwing wave was predicted. It actually happened in France and Germany, but in the rest of the EU the picture is murkier. Modest gains for the right, but the centrists kept a majority in parliament. In Hungary the ruling autocrat had it's worst election result of the decade. In the Netherlands, the far right party that won the general election in november, came in second place behind an alliance of social democrats and greens. To be fair, the expert in the segment actually did mention some of this, but the titles are horrible. Shocking European elections? Ultra right surges? Finally the whole segment was quite funny to me. I live in European country and this is weirdest 'foreign' news reporting I've ever seen. You have a segment of 6 minutes about elections in a foreign country (well union, in this case) and about 90% is aimed at 'what does this mean for Biden and America'. Not even: what does the new make-up of the new parliament or the rise of the far right in France and Germany have for repercussions for US-EU trade relations, military support for Ukraine, climate change (a more rightwing parliament could delay implementation of the European Green deal), etc. Instead it was all aimed at American politics.

The Green new deal is dead, states in the U.S. are already saying they will not go along with it, the U.S. is very devided on this matter, yet if over half the U.S. states refuse to go green ots meaningless, with the way the Green party in the EU just got clobbered it looks like it's dead in the water all together.

Weird stuff ? All of us advanced countries are sick and tired of endless wars to fund The Swamp in DC. Why do y'all not understand this ?

The most prescient thing that was said in this video is that these election results are a sign that "defending the status quo" is not good enough. These far-right parties are seemingly the only parties who are openly acknowledging that the status quo is broken and isn't addressing the needs of the majority of the people. However their "answers" won't actually provided relief to the problems we face. Namely, massive income inequality, and a growing climate catastrophe. For all those in this comments sections who are concerned about the immigration crisis in Europe, think about why they are coming? The economic policies of the US and EU has deprived the Global South of their resources, and global warming is making their homes increasingly unlivable. Where else are they supposed to go? Address the resource extraction perpetrated by massive companies like Nestlé, and start seriously tackling global warming and people want have to leave their homes to "invade" Europe.
