I am a sister and I study a male dominated course so avoiding interaction with the opposite gender is completely unavoidable as I have to work with them on group projects however, how can I avoid things from going professional to unprofessional especially if someone is insisting on it?

I think mingle opposite gender is not taboo perse but is only prohibited to involve beyond our limitations because work with opposite genders in proper manner and whatever you see that you are not happy with and against your values and principles avoid them

You don’t get in a relationship. If you like someone propose marriage and get to know someone with the intentions of marriage.
If you are not on deen then don't feet to be her queen
Stay away from haraam relationships. Get a concu bine instead
