+Charlotte G I totally feel the same way. When I was nominated for student of the year, my parents wanted me to drop out. My dad even said that there was no point in trying because I would lose. That made me really sad, but I still wanted to try my best and I'm glad that I won. My parents were glad too. I just wish that they supported me from the very beginning in the competition and other things that I am interested in. Somi is a very lucky girl to have the family she has. I'm truly envious.

I don't like judging people, but I wouldn't like to be in Somi's dad position. I mean, hearing that your daughter is eating 3 bananas a day for a week just because her agency told her she looks fat (really?), would make me so worried about her health that I would drag her out of the showbiz. I guess we have different points of view and I don't know him or his family, but knowing how entertainment agencies treat the girls I wouldn't sleep the night. I wonder how he thinks about that, because I saw him a bit embarassed when her daughter danced. Is he okay with all that?

No, his face screamed discomfort in hearing Somi talk so proudly of her successful diet. I thought JYP the company would be better than others, considering they seem to care about their idols or at least prefer "healthy looks", but in the end they all use the same evaluation. It's too bad really. The worse thing is how even if you feel okay about yourself, the company will probably guilt-trip and brainwash you into thinking you're fat - that is how trainees feel the urgency to lose weight and talk about it afterwards like it isn't anything out of place.

I guess he is pragmatic. As long his daughter is ok with it and can follow this strict diet, I guess it's fair. It's not that demanding. Some girls do that without being told by their bosses to do it in any developed country and fathers do jack shit about it. Also, this showbiz is harsh because of competition, if she can't do even that for the standpoint of view of the agency, she isn't being serious about her work. These trainees have military level discipline there. Now it doesn't mean I agree with it too. This is how Korean showbiz works and Somi's father seems to understand it. The agencies there will only pick the cream of the crop. At least he is keeping an eye how the agency is handling her career and even helping promoting her. A little dance doesn't hurt. I'd be more embarrassed in Dongjun's situation basically being called an attention whore by MCs and being cool with that. Each country has its downsides and upsides.

I would assume that his desire to see her achieve her dream of becoming an idol outweighs the extremes of her getting there.. It's hard being a parent, you want the best for your child of course, but you also want them to follow their dreams, because that's what *they* want. At the end of the day, you are their parent, not their owner.

The story of Somi's dad getting emotional too when Somi didn't make the cut for Twice is really touching. I'm watching this in 2020 and Somi have had her ups and downs by now. But one thing for sure, she is a very resilient human being and that's admirable of her. I'm glad now she debuted as solo artist and her label seems to treat her so well (based on what I've seen on the show "I Am Somi"). Somi, fighting!

the sad thing is that none of those people probably know what a good diet actually is. They just go with the flow instead of actually reading up on it to learn a thing or two. Someone should've mentioned what a terrible diet that is and how bad it is for the body

I came here for AKMU. They never dissapoint me. And I begin to fall in love with Somi too. She's soooo beautiful and has a good manner. And her family seems sooo nice. I cried when her dad tells story about Somi didnt get into TWICE. And I really love how they raised their children to be happy.

I love this episode. The guests were amazing! AKMU is my favourite and Somi's dad was also surprisingly entertaining! Between him and her mom I can see where she gets her good genes from.

I really enjoyed this episode despite not really knowing any of the guests. I only clicked it because I saw AKMU on Mix&Match (or was it WHO IS NEXT:WIN). I must say though that Chanhyuk is so darn cute. He doesn't fit the typical perception of cute. But his look is so unique and just works well for him. I am smitten.😍😍😍😍

I think it's so meaningful that AKMU said that they grateful for what they have (physically). It really nice to see people who grateful for what they have and I can tell that they look prettier by taking care of themselves, know what's best for them and maybe loose abot of baby fat. I'm happy to see this episode. I need to remind myself from time to time that I'm good enough and not ugly at all. This episode reminds me to be grateful :)

Whereas she is absolutely gorgeous and really talented, she's a very relatable girl and people shouldn't look down on themselves. When Somi and her sister were done with their performance, Somi ran her hand over her sister's face - I do that to my siblings all the time X'D I'm 10 years older than my sister, I don't know how old Somi's sister is but they look like they have quite a big age gap as well. When she did that, it just reminded me of my sister and it made me miss her since I'm 19 and don't live at home anymore. It's odd how such a little and unrelated thing makes me think of my siblings XP

+Moana that's what I like the least about South Korea.. People just aren't sensitized about eating disorders over there. They say it so casually because to them it is a casual subject, you know? It seems the majority is on a diet over there, and it's certainly expected of idols to be on them, especially female idols. They will simply say "oh, I just didn't eat!" when asked how they lost "all that weight" before their debut, and of course, everyone will nod along in unison, no hesitation, as if this is completely normal behaviour and not destructive in the slightest...

Guysss. My Phs. Ed teacher's last name is Douma and he said that his brother is a famous actor in Korea. He said his brother also has a daughter named Somi. Is it a coincidence that Somi's birth name was Ennik Somi Douma? Plus, my Phys. Ed teacher does sort of look like Matthew Douma. They both have a similar face structure. Somi originally came from Canada, which is where I live in right now. My Phys. Ed teacher says that he might talk more about them, so I'm really excited to see if it's the actual Somi. :D Edit: A few weeks ago I was told Somi and her father are going to be in Law of the Jungle ^-^ 2nd Edit: he has a youtube channel for my school on physical education. Its called Mr. Douma

hello. i am mongolian. since akmu didn't have many friends in mongolia, they misunderstood about mongolian beauty type. mongolian standart of beauty is just like other asian countries. big eyes and high nose. suhyun is just a normal girl in mongolia. but the difference between korea and mongolia is even if you are ugly or so-so, you will be never treated differently in mongolia. we also count girls with good smile or good skin as "pretty". so it's not "beauty". suhyun is just pretty. and when she spoke mongolian, there wasn't any mongolian word but the funny thing is her voice tone was exactly the same lol

Hi, I'm also Mongolian. As Suhyun said that Mongolians wrote an article in newspaper and she was baffled, because they are not Mongolians and it's not right. She talked as she was embarassed that they lived in Mongolia. And I wouldn't say that she is so beautiful than, because we are also pretty at another level. I'm not especially angry or like that, but she shouldn't have talked like that. I live also abroad but I still don't understand, why she had talk like that about us. Not everyone would understand it, but as a Mongolian citizen it kind of pisses me off. 🙍

Jenni Ulziisaikhan Sorry,I just got to read this tody,You might get it wrong,but suhyun also akmu never feel emmbrest to said they living in mongolia,They going anywhere they mention mongolia country,Trust me since debut 2014-2017(check out latest they go mongolia with sarangchan).The thing here,the article back then in 2014 wrote about akmu winning a show in korea n they put akmu is from(born) mongolia,while they weird they born in korea not mongolia.The wrong is the writers itself.Akmu really proud they living in mongolia,Their parents still in mongolia..I hope mongolian people dont sad about it..About beauty standard is she put a scrasim to kntzen which dffntly how korea look at people like her.They key word is"beauty standard,Iam consider pretty"..she over confident said about it,some people might not get her,she never meaning the words mongolian is ugly..I hope this will mke u btter😊😊

MysticZ theres a guy in my class who is half philippino half german and he looks 100% asian. i feel like a lot of people that are half usually look like the non white side of their family.
