It looks like they are taking turns conceding against each other to avoid playing against each other WITHOUT biasing their MMRs (taking turns means the MMR loss cancels out with the MMR gain, so that after 2 rounds it is as if they never played at all). Assuming I'm understanding this correctly, how exactly does this "negatively affect other players"? Suppose W3C enabled a feature so that the system would never match 2 players if they mutually agreed not to play against each other. Would this system also "negatively affect other players"? Genuinely curious if I'm misunderstanding something here, because this behavior looks pretty innocuous from where I'm standing.

There's rules and terms of service. No one is above them. Just because Happy is Wunderkin doesn't mean he can skirt past these principles. He's involved in something with rules, rules must apply. It seems entirely moot in the first place. If the king truly wants his throne he should earn it, not do some bullshit to allow them to maintain prestige while others claw to get to where he is. Tl:Dr Happy is lazy and is avoiding playing with others to keep his win to loss ratio/mmr high, and thus his precious ego and middling earnings.

@@lucamckenn5932 Why are you telling me "there's rules and terms of service"? You think I don't know that? I'm trying to understand the motivation behind the rules and you're not helping. This "scheme" doesn't inflate Happy's mmr. It potentially even deflates it. This scheme doesn't bias his win rate, but accelerates it toward equilibrium. I'm still not understanding who is being hurt here (besides "the terms of service").

"how exactly does this "negatively affect other players"?" - Players repeatedly flaunting the rules for personal gain is bad for a community. Choosing to enter into a ranked competition, then deliberately not acting, would be grounds for immediate disqualification from an event and possible banning from future events, not to mention boos from the crowd as you sit there. When it's framed that way, hopefully you can see more clearly what Happy is doing. He keeps the benefit (high mmr within a system) while avoiding the downsides (certain people/playstyles/matchups that are either unpleasant or unfavorable or both to him). To achieve this trade, he pays with sportsmanship and his own integrity, AND other people within the system who also value MMR suffer, as they would have gained more overall if he lost more overall. Here's another way of looking at it - what would things look like if everyone behaved this way? Would the community overall become better or worse, more or less fair for everyone, if everyone left/wintraded as Happy has been doing? Queue times would skyrocket, mmr would become almost completely untied to skill.

@@evanwhite6369/shorts It seems like you can't get past the fact that he's breaking the terms of service, so I'll (re-)frame the question in terms of altering the matchmaking algorithm: If MM gave you a field to enter in names of opponents you didn't want to play, and when two players mutually entered each others names into that field then MM would never match them together, why would anyone complain? Who would suffer under such a system? And the match making system is not a tournament. I actually don't care about Happy, I barely follow the scene. My main interest here is in game design. The match making system is supposed to maximize for FUN and playing against someone you don't like is not fun. So if Happy is doing this in order to, say, keep his stream entertaining, then I see no problem with it... especially since no one has demonstrated a single victim (besides the abstract victim of the poor "terms of service").

@@sterlingveil "It seems like you can't get past the fact that he's breaking the terms of service" I actually don't care about the rules. I hate rules in general, probably to the extent that it is bad for me. I thought I did a good job describing the actual negative effects of his actions, because those are what matter to me. "If MM gave you a field to enter in names of opponents you didn't want to play, and when two players mutually entered... Who would suffer under such a system?" I don't think anyone would, and I agree this would be a positive change for some players. "The match making system is supposed to maximize for FUN" Strongly disagree. The purpose of MMR is to determine players actual skill level, that's it. I'd even go as far as to say the OPPOSITE is true - plenty of high rated streamers can be found time and time again creating smurf accounts, because it is more fun for them and their audience to dominate players of lower skill, instead of ~%51 w/l sweaty games against the best, where they belong. What do you think of comparisons I made before that you skipped over? Like an athlete or a team at a competition just choosing to sit down on the pitch. How would that feel to the people watching? Or the what if everyone did it question. What would the WC3 community look like then?

Would it be not a solution to create a player ban list that you can enter lets say 3 - 4 names that you not get matched up against? This would remove this situation probably. And if the games are way to familiar like the 3:41 minutes we still should report and ban people. No matter if Happy is there or not.

Very interesting. Sometimes I get people that immediately request -draw. They claim lag, but when I check with -rtt both ping would say 100ms. Is -rtt just not reliable? When people do that it makes me wonder about this issue with certain matchups. I dislike playing NE and Orc; they just can do so much in early game... way too oppressive. At the end of the day you just can't force players to play something they don't enjoy...
