"Happy Factory" - Teenage Engineering OP-1

Музыка

Made with the OP-1 by Teenage Engineering.
This song uses OP-1 sounds only.
(The drums were from a downloaded kit, though)
Also the logo in the corner is outdated. Just uhh... ignore that...
That thing by the volume knob is a dog sticker.
Also on soundcloud: / happy-factory
Enjoy! ^^

For those who refer to "clicks" happening during looping. This happens because the loop doesn't begin and/or end at the zero crossing of the signal. This causes a drastic and immediate change in the sample amplitude, and the result is an audible transient (click), making sure that the sample is not only properly timed, but that it starts at stops at the zero crossing will ensure that this does not happen.

Great song and probably one of the best all op-1 demos I've seen. I just ordered one thanks to your demo!

Happy Factory, a perfect name because it made me VERY happy. Gave me the same feelgood-vibe i get when I listen to The Veldt by deadmau5 feat. Chris James. I've never seen better use of the OP-1.

And it comes with a FM radio tuner ! For $1299 worth every penny it even comes with an antenna as a BONUS ! The only thing I didn't like about OP-1 is that the tape cassette spool turns in reverse.

The arrangement is nice. I guess you are well versed in producing before getting the op1 or did the op1 help? Does music theory help your composition?

Very nice! :) Do you also have the pops-and-clicks-problem when recording into loops? If yes, how did you get rid of it?

  • @Northnan

+Martin Reitschmied Thanks! Yeah, there were a few times when there were clicks, but I just re-recorded if they happened. Also, there were couple that wouldn't go away, so after I recorded the song, I pull the file into Logic Pro just to remove them.

Nice tune! Can I ask, how are you navigating through different "sections" of the song? I understand the muting of tracks, but I can hear different sections and I'm not sure how you are moving through / looping the timeline. Thanks!

+Simon Fine Thanks for listening! The green bar on the screen shows which measures are being looped. I set it to loop eight measures at a time, then muted and unmuted tracks for each group of eight measures. I can then have it move onto the next group of measures by holding shift and pressing the right arrow button.

Amazing tune mate. I was in a bad accident a few years ago and among the injurys I have a paralyzed arm is it possible to use with one hand?

  • @Northnan

Thanks! Sorry to hear that! Yes, I'd say the OP-1 is easy to use one handed. There may be moments where you have to hold the record button while playing keys, but there are also ways to work around it by using the built in sequencers.

+Monark Nakrani There's a bit of a learning curve with the OP-1, but it does have everything you need to make a full track. Recording and editing take a while to get used to, but other than that, I would definitely recommend it for starting out.

Does it come with a plastic keyboard cover with a legend to all the keys? I saw one on the display model at Guitar Center and it was a huge help.

I think it might if you buy it new...? I'm not 100% sure, since I bought mine used. Teenage Engineering's website has a great guide, as well.
