I've come to the age where nostalgia has sunk in deep. I know that I have lived longer than I will live in the future. I grew up in the 70s and 80s. I miss the good memories that emerged from very traumatic memories. Television and movies helped me immensely.

This episode really touched me. I remember Tom Bosley’s speaking to us (the audience) at the very end. It really meant a lot of things. He seemed like a really nice guy. He connected with us. Like that show connected with us. It kinda makes me feel less weird about having personal feeling about characters in a fictional show, or missing people as if they really were part of our lives like people we know. That’s the main thing: these shows touch people. The music touches people. It is about people. About us.

It went downhill after Ron Howard left in 1980. They tried different cast changes to boost the ratings (including Linda Purl as a love interest for Fonzie that lasted one year) but it was never the same without Richie. ABC was going to cancel Happy Days after the 1982 season but they felt they owed Garry Marshall a chance to end the series in a proper closing so they only renewed Happy Days for a half-season in 1983 (13 episodes)

This episode ("Passages") is the last-produced episode and is the finale. "Happy Days" was pulled off the ABC schedule in February and March 1984 due to the ever-boring Winter Olympics, returning in late April. "Passages" aired as a one-hour show on May 8, and "Happy Days" was pulled off the schedule again. There were a five unaired episodes, which ABC burned off in June, July, and September 1984. The last ABC telecast of "Happy Days" was a previously unaired episode titled "Fonzie's Spots," on Monday, September 24. So one might say the show creeped into the 1984-85 season.

About us.
Thanks for posting this. I remember watching this when I was nine years old back in 1984. Wish there were still shows like this on the air today.

Older brother, Chuck, actor Gavan O'Herlihy, didn't want to continue with the series - he said he wasn't interested in showing up every 3-4 weeks to bounce a basketball a few times. He went back to England, Ireland and Europe to do movies, did guest shots in TV shows, and landed a role in the last Sean Connery Bond movie, Never Say Never Again.
