09kfactor, It should have been the finale for a show that in the first 2 years really touched on Americana in the 1950's following that it became the "Fonzie" show. This was a very touching end of Richie's tenure on the show and in many ways is an excellent example of "The passing of time" !!!

Getting older together on camera in front of millions playing brother and sister. Such an incredible moment in the show. And sad to see a big part of the show (Ron Howard) leave. There was no acting in those tears. They truly loved and respected each other as co worker and maybe even like family. Rest in peace Erin Moran.

This is where they should have ended the show, not with Joanie and Chachi's Wedding. This was a more fitting end as the series began with Richie and The Fonz and it should have ended there. Even this two part episode resolved Ralph Malph's character arc and had a fitting scene with Richie, Ralph, Potsie and The Fonz in Arnolds. Having Ron Howard come back for the wedding was anti-climatic.

Only twice on Happy Days was the Fonz actually punched. Once was by a Tom Hanks character and the other was by Richie in this episode. It shows the depth of Fonzie's love for Richie when he took that punch and didn't want to rumble. Anyone else who would have done that, I think, would have ended up "making medical history". The Tom Hanks character, though was also in a later season when Fonz had mellowed out and they ended up making peace, though. In an earlier season, no one dared lay a hand on Fonzie, period.

Only with Tom Tom, it was a kick not a punch 'cause Tom Tom the piper's son stole a pig and the way he run the pig was eat Tom was beat Tom went crying down the street. I just know he reacted in a way that showed that the punch fazed him more than he let on. But the fact that he wasn't rolling around on the floor grabbing his midsection screaming in pain after being punched like that showed how tough Fonzie was. A punch in the stomach in the right place can actually kill somebody. That's how the magician Harry Houdini died.

This show had its ups and downs, this was definitely one of its ups. I cried the first time I saw it and every time I saw it in syndication. These two men always came through for each other and the show. I miss this show, and all of its cooky characters.

Been reading some of the comments, and I share the same sentiment. But when Richie was looking around the living room for the last time, I believe it was Ron Howard looking at the studio audience, for the last time, saying Goodbye. Been probably 39 years now, since that episode aired, and it still gets me emotional. ❤️ Great show, great actors!
