I'm a simple man. I hear french horn + trombone unison; I upvote.
The maestro went nuts (understandably so!) and his reaction, together with the piece itself (and the actions/antics of the concertmaster!), are priceless!
Damn imagine them practicing this for weeks, if not months, in secret just to give him a best bday present

trust me, with a good orchestra, good musicians, 15-20 minutes is more than ample for a short piece like this.

They weren't planning to rehearse it at all, but squeezed in a run-through before the dress rehearsal while the Maestro was conveniently accosted outside the hall. A magnificent orchestra and organization that I'm lucky to work for!

Nah, for an orchestra like this it took closer to 15 mins. These are professional musicians who can sight read any piece of music and do a pretty decent job of it, and that's the expectation. Something as simple as Happy Birthday would be a cakewalk. They probably played it once or twice, and that was it.

@@user-jg9rp5qf4g Exactly. Beside when you start out on an instrument of any kind, Happy Birthday is almost always one of your first songs

I also love at 1:02 where CM literally doesn't miss a beat as he grabs the baton mid-bar and swings it out into a perfect 3.
I love how the violinist starts conducting & then the actual conductor ends up giving him his baton

I love how the audience started laughing right when they were playing happy birthday it was classic 😂😃
Wow! What a beautiful arrangement, both in song and in prank. But of course, the two stars were the conductor and the semi-conductor (pun intended). The conductor's reactions were priceless; I can practically hear his thoughts going "What is even happening?" and "Well, I'm out of a job now." The violinist who not only began the arrangement, then began to conduct it ( even using the baton when the maestro presented it to him mid-performance), and finally offering his violin only to take it away. Everything about it was hilarious and priceless!
