Happy 40th Birthday From BBC Two ❤️

BBC Two is now 60 years old. This video clip was when it was younger at 40. I was reading before that BBC Two won't make it to 70 in ten years time in 2034.

BBC 2 is now 57 years old. Happy birthday, BBC 2.

For most of the first two decades of BBC Two they were an evenings only channel, apart from Playschool at 11.00am. Open University filled a few daytime hours from the mid 1970s onwards though.

To think the way they pushed for that third UK channel frequency because ITV was seen as too common and greedy and then for nearly twenty years it spent more time showing a testcard than any programmes.

What? BBC Two hit the air on 20th April 1964? No way. I never saw that after I was born. On 20th April 2004, BBC Two turned 40 years old. Now, in 2017, this is BBC Two's 53rd year of broadcasting. So, for 2004, it's a Happy 40th birthday to BBC Two from Maycee. 13 years ago, BBC Two turned 40 years old. Maycee wished BBC Two a Happy 40th birthday.

No one at BBC Television Centre when it was being built thought of installing back up generators?

They just weren't common 50 years ago. Plus, they're expensive, especially when you need one big enough to keep a studio _and_ transmitter up and running. Also, local electric grids are pretty stable, so you're throwing a crapton of cash at something that in most cases is only going to be used once or twice a year if you're in an urban or suburban area (which Ally Pally is). They make more sense to have them on a remote transmitter site, where the power is less reliable. When I was in radio back in the 80's, the studio and the AM transmitter (which were on the same site) didn't have a generator, while our FM transmitter (which was up in the mountains 50 or 60 miles away) did

On 16th April 2024, BBC Two will turn 60 years old. Now, on 16th April 2018, BBC Two turns 54 years old.
