Jack Lord was the coolest cop in TV history, and the series' great scripts, superb acting, and Lord himself are the reasons why the original Five-0 is still one of the most widely watched syndicated US television shows of all time.

Jack was one of the few business minded actors that demanded part ownership and control of the series. That didn't always sit well with network execs as he was the boss in real life as well. After his wife passed on, he designated his entire estate go to Hawaiian charities - a true class act.

I remember that when he died, a lot of people, including me, were shocked to learn that he was 77. Thought he might have been in his late 50s, early 60s.

I thought the same thing. I thought he was in his thirties when he did Hawaii Five-O, but since he was 77 when he died, that made him 47 when he got the role and his fifties when he continued to play it, yet he looked so young.

I recetly saw a couple of episodes frothe last season in 1980. And Mr. Lord did look like he was in his late 50s. I guess perception changes over time.Heavily dyed black hair though.

Why did Jack Lord write his date of birth as December 1928 when he registered the Gun Elvis gave him in 1973..has that ever been explained ?
