Hanukkah for Kids - What is Hanukkah

Hanukkah is the Hebrew word for dedication and is celebrated by Jewish people all over the world. Hanukkah is also known as the Festival of Lights.
It is celebrated on the 25th day of the Hebrew month of Kislev.
Hanukkah can start anywhere from late November through the month of December.
Hanukkah is an eight-day and night Jewish holiday to celebrate the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem, which happened in the 2nd century B.C.
To celebrate Hanukkah, Jewish families light what is called a hanukkiah.
The hanukkiah is a lamp with nine branches and is lit one candle each night until the eighth night
The ninth candle is normally in the center and is used to light the other eight candles each night of Hanukkah
