In the 70's we had a Grumman square stern canoe with a Johnson 3hp motor on Bull Shoals lake. With an 80 pound kid (myself) driving it and a rock in the front to hold it down it would do 12 mph. This was well before there was an age limit on captains. We did not have GPS but my dad would shadow us in his ski boat to get the mph. With two eighty pound kids he clocked us at 10 mph. Once we came upon a large cabin cruiser out of gas in the middle of the lake and we towed him 2 miles or so to the nearest marina. ( at this time seeing other boaters on the lake on week days was few and far between) It was slow but we made it before our gas ran out. We went through most of our small bottle of spare gas we always carried.

Liking these videos. Came here for the boats, but stayed for the cars and bikes. Can see the improvement in videos over time, and really like the timestamps. Keep 'em coming.

@@HufflerGarage Agree with Al Strom. Really nice format and so many people are looking for info on the Hangkai since 2-strokers are getting harder and harder to come by in the used market. Keep it up and thank you for the great info!

It looked like the motor pushed that red boat pretty good. I have a Chrysler 15 Horse with a Hydroforce 11 ft boat. With 3 small dudes including myself and 3 gallons of fuel, I am able to hit 16 mph and 17 with one person less. I plan on uploading a video on my boat soon. Seeing your videos and all the other inflatable boat videos on youtube motivated me to get mine running! Keep up the cool boat videos!

The 6HP gets the job done, but I'd really like to have at least a 10HP. The red dinghy is only rated for a 10, but the white dinghy can do a 15. With the ^, if we add another person, they only top out at about 7 MPH. Hope to see some vids of your boat up soon! What year is your Chrysler 15?

@@HufflerGarage Its a 1980 Seaking by Chrysler. Lots of videos on youtube with these motors! Parts are getting scarce but not impossible to find! Mine had a bad condenser giving it weak spark and running on one cylinder. I got it up and running, I just neeed to button things up like tune the idle and add a recoil rope.

Would love to see a update with the prop and Hydro foil combined . I've got the same Hydro foil on a 5.9hp parsons & 2.9 island inflatable. Can " juust " notice the difference without the Hydro foil but think the prop combo would give it that extra push on take off .

Unrelated Question: in your last video, where you take both boats across the ICW, how did you rig the boats, or what were they riding on, as you were pulling them behind your truck (at then end of your trip)?? That was awesome and I need to know lol!! I saw the transom wheels, but it looked like you had the bow (front) either elevated or riding on something.. what was it??? Thanks in advance 😁🙏👍

We bought some moving dollies at Harbor Freight and put them under the bow of the dinghies. www.harborfreight.com/18-in-x-12-in-1000-lb-capacity-hardwood-dolly-58312.html

On a small low horsepower boat I would take popping the rear end up and keeping it up even through gentle turns over a couple of extra MPH any day. The hydrofoil adds even more drag in the water which hurts the speed but uses the lift in the water caused by the prop turbulence to bring the rear end up quicker and easier. Again if you just want speed look for a larger engine. Another thing to be careful of playing with prop pitches and no tachometer reading the RPM's is you can easily over rev the engine past its safe operating range and cause damage to the engine. These little cheap Chinese engines are great for getting gas power on a small boat for cheaper prices but they are not high performance motors. Also I would buy a spare cdi and coil as small Chinese engines (not just marine) are known for their crappy electronic quality. But for a small boat where I would not be beating on the motor just looking to get from point A to B as a budget option I would buy one.

I live on lake Norman too btw! But what gas tank did you use for it?

Howdy neighbor! Small world! While we're on short trips around the lake we use the built in fuel tanks on the outboards, but for long range we bought ones very similar to this: amzn.to/3scy8M6 The quality isn't spectacular, but all of the new "self-venting" EPA regulated tanks are known to swell up and crack. This is one of the few that still has an old school venting lid.

Hey there, what are the 6hp engines like for fuel consumption? I've heard they have a 2.5l internal tank. How long WOT to get throught a whole tank roughly ? Thanks in advance.

They are comparable to any other 2 stroke motor. It has been a while since we ran on just the internal tanks, but if I recall, you can go for an hour or so on the internal tank at WOT.

Hello brother how much this motor 6hp

For a regular 2-4 person inflatable, how much body weigh this 6hp motor recommend? Is it possible 2 -3 person can sit while using this motor on any inflatable boat which can carry 2-4 people? Or do you recommend to have only 1 person when using this motor?

You can run multiple people on it, but it will be slow and you won't be able to get on plane. If you are regularly running more than 1 person, I would highly recommend getting the Hangkai 12 or 18. Both can get on plane with more than 1 person.

I could use your help if all possible. I bought a use Hangkai 6hp 2 stroke. The previous owner never did use the motor but he did start it. The question I have is I want to use a auxiliary tank. I do believe you said in one of your videos that you keep the shut off valve on the side of the motor turned off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you would leave the fuel shutoff in the off position for the external tank.

Yes, there are universal kits out there or a Mercury or Tohatsu kit should work as well.

Who did you purchase your motor from. I am thinking about buying one.

We got both of ours from a seller on Amazon, but that seller does not sell them anymore. There's tons of them available on eBay and Amazon. I'd go with whoever is cheapest and has good feedback.

Can you get parts with out any problems. I am thinking about buying a 6hp 2 stroke but would like to hook up a portable gas tank. I have a tank but would need the gas fitting to connect to the motor. Are Yamaha or Mercury's parts interchangeable for the tank fuel fitting.

What is the upgraded prop so I can buy one for mine.

I think one of the problems is with the way it sits in the water. I'd like to get a 12 or 18 hp Hangkai.

i think this guy is too heavy for these test too much drag, not enough specs given

Red dinghy is rated for 1100 lbs. and the Grey one is rated for 1200 lbs. The 6 HP will only plane with less than about 300 lbs. combined crew & gear.
