I’m so glad you posted this. I’ve been wondering how he was doing. I still have not forgotten about a future mustang to send to you.😊
At a glance, he looks like he has Morgan in him. What a handsome boy! ❤
What a beautiful horse! I think he's going to surprise you at what he can do. Another legend in the making.
OMG he’s got some good stop! He looks great Matt… it’s amazing what some good food and a little attention can do for a horse. I would love for you to do some challenges on him.
Good to see you still have Raven. Not to shabby for a back burner horse, shows his willingness. He'll show you his true talent when you get him out on trail.
Been wondering about Raven. I know you havs been crazy busy with the show horses. Raven looks so good, seems like he has some try and very nice stop! I think he deserves your time.
He's looking good. Always willing to do his best. Can't wait to see what he does when you really work on him.
He’s so smart, he started offering stops at places you’d stopped before.
He did so wonderful. Build his wind & knock out the rough spots & he is gonna be a winner!
Hi again MATT Yes Sir it's all in there! Tickled my long winded comments to you are coming true as we can see it with our eyes. The mustangs have a different kind of smarts/thinking ability power and strength all built in from their heritage and survival challenges. Wisdom in those eyes... With you doing all the right things with him I know with no doubt you will have a terrific most special horse and friend ever. Proof positive that money doesn't always buy the best. Knowing them just give him enough then time to think/ digest what he needs to learn from each lesson. Promise Matt he won't forget just like what you saw today. Soo happy to see you two together again. Warms my heart pressing on with continued respect and awe of you also as a terrific trainer and competitor that the gifts of you both will make something very special happen. Enjoy every moment of this unique experience not forgetting to look him in the eye and talk to him too. It can be something magical like you've never known. All that for $175!! Catcha next time

Thanks for the kind words! Best money I’ve spent on a horse!
Looking forward to more Raven. Thanks Matt.
I love Raven! It's always nice to see how far he's come. Your giggle at 5:18 made me laugh. I love how minimally you use your hands when you ride - you're an inspiration for riders of all disciplines to use one's seat more. Also can I just say how insanely jelly I am of your arena? Tis the season for indoor arena riding here in NY. Very grateful for the space in bad weather but it's small. Can my 17hh Appendix mare and I just teleport over for a hack in the arena? We'll stay out of everyone's way; no one will even know we're there, haha.
This is one of the most interesting series of videos that you’ve done please keep posting on his development.
Happy New Years everyone!
It's so nice to see a trainer doing his own work...hands on 😊
He is magnificent...I've wanted a Mustang my whole life...he is something special in the making. Looking forward to more of him.
Check out the clever cowgirl. She has a 2 yr old mustang she's going to train and enter in NRHA .
It would be so cool if you could train him for reining and see what he can do. He seems to have a ton of try, really wants to please you, is athletic and learns fast. It is always so interesting to watch someone train a mustang and see how he matches up to pedigree horses bred for many generations for a specific task. It is horses like Raven that make your skill as a trainer really shine. Raven is a nice looking Spanish type horse, he has a different type of charisma than your other, very pretty reining horses. He is so much fun to watch, it is his videos that I watch start to finish and never want to miss. I hope we see more of him, he is a star :)
I can’t wait to see how far you take Raven he really seems to have a good heart and mind. You never know he might make a half decent reining horse with a little time and work.
He's got that stopping down good already.👍🏼
Raven is thriving with you. He looks fabulous. Great muscle and lets talk about that hair shine. Raven looks like he likes to work, great opportunity to try roping and other cattle work with him.
I have been patiently watching for our boy Raven. Matt he looks so handsome. He moves really smooth. I keep watching his face and head, and I know I mentioned this before but you need to do a DNA on him. He looks like he has Spanish blood in him. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Mustangs are smart and they are loyal once you earn their trust. So glad I got to see him today my friend🍀🇺🇸
What great progress! He’s so different from the horse you couldn’t get close to at the beginning. Good work!
He's so beautiful! I have Paso Finos, and I love that Spanish look!
I've seen one guy doing some mild cutting on a mustang, but I'd love to see someone fully train one for cutting. With one with the right conformation, mustang agility, and endurance I'd imagine there are several around the holding facilities that could really accel in cutting. Same with roping. Some herds are heavily mixed with QH DNA as well as Thoroughbred DNA. Mustangs range from endurance all the way down to some serious athletes. It's all about finding the one that fits your purpose.
YEA!! I have been wondering about Raven. He is looking good
Been waiting on this!
No way look at him go with the clippers! That’s awesome!!
Great video Matt keep them coming
Great stop🎉
Such a beautiful horse, and very beautiful loping.
I love all your videos Matt. Raven videos are my favorite ones. He is your next reining horse. I love how he listens to you and respects you. ❤
What a cool horse! Wow i really really like Raven.
Looking good 👍
I'm so happy you're gonna start working him. I love Raven!
Look at Raven’s hock action at the trot! I’ve never ridden a reining horse but worked plenty of green horses. I have found a new horseman to follow and learn from. Thank you for your excellent video Sir.
I LOVE RAVEN! He is such a cool horse and really seems to like all the special treatment you've given him! Good job Matt!
I love this! My son will be excited to see Raven cruising around like a pro! He looks fantastic, what a horse, he hit the jackpot when you pulled up to get him. Well done! Happy New Year!
i love watching him!!! he’s come so far, this inspires me with my two mustangs! they can be so versatile! i barrel race on my mine!
I want to see you show that mustang in the reining pen. Cute little mover. Bobby Ingersoll showed a mustang years ago.
Raven...❤There is your REINED COW HORSE prospect Matt!
Wow how great.
I thought you had sold him but I’m glad he’s still with you!! If you do sell him, he’s gonna make someone a great horse
I was wondering how Raven was doing. Look forward to seeing you do more with him.
The brakes on him are really nice.....he seems like he would make a good breakaway roping horse.
Aloha from Kauai. I so enjoy watching Raven and Matt's story. I was just watching Arrow by Supposable Productions on KZread. Raven looks very much like this horse. He was a Spanish mustang from Oklahoma. You might want to check this out.
Yippee!👍🏻👏👏
Now something I would love to know is how much you think bloodlines and conformation make in the success of a horse. For instance a mustang like this.
Looking good!! I have a Saddlebred I wanna send ya 😊
"Eyou.can.do.it.Raven."😅
And you show that even the top reining trainers post on horses trotting!!!
Sometimes I think that my FriesianX would love reining. She is mostly Friesian with a splash of QH for good measure. She is shaped a bit like this mustang and is seriously athletic. She jumped over 5 ground poles set up at trotting distance at one time as a weanling just freestyle. She also likes to get angry at cows. (Total mare ‘tude)😂 wish I had the money to send her to you to develop the first Friesian reining horse. Totally develop a new division.
Elisa Wallace has her mustangs at liberty and dressage/jumping/X country in 100 days
Can I ask why is it you have no curb chain on the bridle? ❤
he is so darn cute
novice horse person here who always learns from your videos; out of curiosity, why do you shave his whiskers off?
I love Raven, can you take a horse like Raven and turn him into a great Reiner? I would really appreciate a good response to that question if you wouldn't mind. Are you thinking of selling Raven ever? Not that I can ride anymore but I like to dream about it.
He looks well fed too Matt. You mentioned he wears hind shoes only, do any of your performance horses wear hinds only? Thanks!
@goldnhorseshoes

Probably sliding plate (sliders). A lot of reiners wear only sliders
What are J 5's???
It's not the camera,it's Ryan. How old is he?
so, what are J5,s???
he looks to have some walker in him
random question for the un-educated? but is there a specific size horse thats more ideal for this sport? because you seem large for the horse? etc
He looks like he could be a quarter horse
Why the whiskers? That’s my only problem
@winter30

Agreed. We need to catch up to the rest of the world about not amputating whiskers. They need them. It is considered abuse in other countries.
@Suzie_Edits09

@@winter30 It basically is, clipping the mane does not affect them, but the whiskers, really? I don’t agree with clipping them, never have, never will. He is a great guy but why the whiskers?
Raven looks like a dressage candidate to me lol
I loved my mustang!! She was a super trail horse but found English and western showing boring.
Mustangs almost never buck. when you round pen them you should keep them going until when you let them stop and they face you and take a step towards you. once they do that you can do pretty much anything with them. they are needy for safety and companionship.I spent 8 hours a day for six months with them and that worked good for me. they are surefooted in the mountains and you can pack on them and they are loyal.
Why would you put that bit in his mouth? Is that really necessary? Try bitless. Saddle pad and saddle way too big for him
@mattmillsreining1

Yes it’s necessary!
Dang it bothers me that Matt slammed that saddle down.... on the horse.... thankful I don't do that

@@mattmillsreining1 at least I don't slam my saddle on my horse !!!!!
Raven is beautiful. The rest 👎
Just think about it.....for the sake of "looks" he shaves the whiskers a horse grows by nature (does anyone do that to their dogs or cats?). I've also seen fools cut the feather off for the same reason of looks. I am no pro like this guy, yet I do my bit of taming out there and caring for my own.....so you can be sure I would never let this guy do anything with my horses. It's a matter of principles and priorities.
