She always sounds so sad. Her past life (last century) really weighs heavily on her. We all have our struggles and continue to struggle. She makes some very good, clever and true points - but the droning drags me down because it obscures the energy behind it. Thumbs up to the droll.

I totally agree. She drones on & on about her mistakes and weaknesses to the point of whining. At the same time, (and this is where she shines), she is good and very funny at celebrating the loves of her heart. I can read one of her books every other year. A great wordsmith and very much worth a read. Just my opinion.

I found Anne totally self absorbed...I'm very disappointed. I was expecting inspiration. I just started "Bird by Bird" and will try to give it a chance but I've heard writers say that Stephen King's "On Writing" is much more worthwhile

Many people become "Church nuts," to find meaning in their miserable lives. It's better than anti-depressants because it points you towards God, your reason for being on Earth, and where you're going after this life. I think she deserves to be self-absorbed. We don't know what everyone has gone through in their lives and most of us are the "walking wounded."
