This song really brings out Genevieve’s voice, and it’s truly amazing.

The fact that the video is edited so that Genevieve never blinks her eyes makes it fit so well with the stressful topic of the requirements of a day job.

I've worked "9-5" for almost 30 years and haven't produced anything as beautiful as this.

This is the greatest pop song I've ever heard and I don't understand why these two haven't drowned in a veritable flood of Grammys.

Because success/widespread popularity is largely down to luck, and gatekept by a consolidated music industry who choose what gets heard based mainly on whether they think they can make money off of you (and if you're willing to sign away your creative rights to them). Mass production is key to maximizing profits, so they pick a handful of acts to push and flood media with. Talent is no guarantee of success in the music world, just like in most other pursuits in life.

What Istas says plus this being too intricate for the masses. You may perceive it as refreshing and innovative, most people just want unsurprising background noise, not something that makes them nervous or demands attention. I think Louis Cole is doing pretty well by now on his own though, there are plenty of folks buying directly from him on bandcamp.

Saw them live for the first time two nights ago. I will never be the same. This song was performed, and it was every bit as good as this - better, as seeing musicianship at this level live isn't something often seen.

haven't heard a song this good in a long time. it's funky, jazzy, harmonic, spacy with a drive, the progression is incredible, the bass pops with incredible runs, her backing vocals are excellent, great phrasing and supporting synths that accentuate the melody, catchy hook. blends progressive shoegazey-space rock with jazz with funk with synth electronica with some pop, wow! ! ! A+++

The bass player has it dialed in perfectly.

Modern Electro-Jazz-R&B-Funk-Pop gem. This is what great modern music is all about, luminous hip chord changes, inventive arrangements, gorgeous singing, catchy melodies, great playing. And very heart felt, sincere lyrics. Instant favorite.

He's great, and an excellent live performer. Saw them in Philly & they were all exceptional. While his kind of schtick is being purposely egotistical, there was a point where he just said "I'm going to play some drums" soloed for 5-10 min & everyone in the band was just looking at him like.. come on guy.. lol.

Such a happy fun summer song about being flat broke.

Listened to this a lot while opening a recording studio at the age of 40. Gen knows what's up.

Loving this track so hard lately. Lefebvre is so effortlessly funky, it's inspirational. Louis and Genevieve, I'm indoctrinating my two young daughters -- they've been singing Hanging On and Overtime randomly around the house. It's working! :-)

Where to start? The composition is incredible. Love the melody, the funk section, the string lines, the modulation at 3:58 and the beautiful ending (who else writes great endings like that?). Vieves kills it. Fantastic vocal choir section at the end. Sick bass line with Tim Lefebvre. And of course the trash can drum guy! THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!

This song's been a piece of what's been motivating me lately to focus more on my creative skills instead of video games and TV all day. I hate work, i hate working for someone else's dream and this song is such a slap in the face with it's lyrics to get off my ass and try for something different. I just discovered this band a week ago and can confidently say they're in my top 10 all time.

That bassline should be illegal! Oh my gawd. I keep coming back to it again and again. The whole song is a masterpiece!

As much as i like the new stuff, I miss this version of Knower. Totally unique. The Life album was the full package. The best thing they’ve done. The 80s vibes are awesome.

How can a song about the Sisyphean nature of life in the capitalist sausage-grinder be so uplifting? The lyrics are crushing yet the music holds no trace of cynicism. It's kind of heartbreakingly beautiful... An anthem for our current world... I write like such a pretentious fuck. But seriously, amazing.

Smoothest modulations ever. It was like entering a new key of paradise. LOVED Gens vocals at the end.

I've listened to this song hundreds of times, and it's still as fresh as the very first time. Actually, it continues to improve with age. Lovin' Knower.

Such a great song, wicked bass. I've seen these guys in a small pub in San Francisco and chatted with them before the show; they and the show were awesome...!

This song is pure perfection. And Knower doesn't stop there, the visuals that go with it are impossible to look away from. It's all very simple, but it's pure beauty.

How Genevieve Artadi hits those high notes is beyond me.

I am besides myself, wondering why it took me almost seven months to get here. Truly poised against a backdrop beautifully decorated. Each sound has such a special place, and resides there without effort. The chord progression fills me more than any meal ever has. That groove constructed by the bass is the perfect rhythmic marriage, with no divorce in sight. Genevieve sits atop the ensemble uttering the words as a part of her creation. This song is a well packed gift to the human race. Thank you Knower!

I think they mean it sarcastically, kind of a mocking tone saying that real life should in fact mean everything but 9 to 5 instead of the other way around.

it's such a tiny detail, but that super crisp hi hat hit in the middle of the chorus drums is.... I dunno, perfect? A tiny little accent that I hear so clearly and somehow helps make this track for me.

The lyrics hit too close to home when you're in your last year of college. Thank god the song is so soothing
