Hangar 9 P-47D Thunderbolt 20cc - Model AV8R Episode 87
Ойын-сауық
EPIC Highly Modified P-47! In Model AV8R episode 87, we feature Joshua Orchard's Hangar 9 P-47 Thunderbolt in our latest episode of Model AV8R's and their Models! Joshua is a serious builder who enjoys designing and scratch building his planes, so when he got a hold of a Hangar 9 20cc P-47...he went all out on it! Joshua stripped the printed covering off of it and then preceded to add multiple intricate moving scale features! Then, of course, he painstakingly re-finished it and added thousands of rivets! Joshua will take us through a detailed walk around and tell us about the build. This was filmed at SEFF 2023, and Heidi got Joshua's noon demo flight as well as a flight he did for us later! This is truly an Epic P-47! Enjoy!

If it had an engine. Lol. This was at a busy, noisy event. Its an electric, and there was so much background noise we lowered the volume on that and added music so it would be more less annoying. You're welcome. ; )

Very cool!
I'm another wacky scale guy. We do some crazy stuff with our models. I would have used a power system capable of driving a 4 bladed prop and actually used that second battery. Put an eflite power 90 in a Hanger 9 60 size Corsair. Great flying model. Nice T-bolt. Kudos.

What a showstopper of a P-47, Adam! When I listened to how much work was done and how much was added, I thought it would fly like a missile with all the extra weight, but it doesn't! Fabulous stuff!

The added weight was just over an additional pound. Most folks do not realize how HEAVY the pretty vinyl coverings are on ARFs these days.
Nice indeed 😎

@@JoshuaOrchard ARF building is still building. I end that debate over and over with the Websters dictionary where the definition of build vlearly states to assemble or construct. I love ARFs, scratch building, and everything in between. I love seeing someone like you take a kit and make it special 😁. You totally killed it!

Great review Adam and flying by Joshua. I thought that the superb finishing was a remarkably different quality of finish compared to the out-of-the-box stock model - great job Joshua! Great to see the flaps added, which are insanely missing from the stock model.

One thing that is quick to see is not all the great builders go to Top Gun. Joshua fantastic creation, never cared much for flying at events, Defensive Flying. 🙄🙄🤣🤣😁😁 Great fun Heidi and Adam, Jeff in LA USA

Yes, unfortunately that is the way of things anymore. Long gone are the decades-long runs of fantastic models. Still, they all have an expiration date and I'm glad that I get to fly her more.
Hi wanted to pick your brain. If you had to pick a gas engine for a scale flying bush plane would you go gas, nitro or 2 stroke gas 4 stroke nitro or anything else "gas". Ease of use over performance

Hey Ruby! So, I have two planes left with internal combustion engines. Both have Saito 4 stroke nitro engines. I prefer the sound to be honest. We have two videos featuring these engines...the Sig Kadet video (mine) and the twin Fuse Cub video (my buddy Tim). That said, nitro engines are messy. They get oily residue all over the plane and you have to wipe them down with Windex after every flying session. Gas engines like DLE, DA, and GP are much cleaner running and require less tuning as the climate changes. All of them have a required break in period that requires re-tuning a bit as the engine gets broken in. There are a lot of really good engines out there both in 2 stroke and 4 stroke, gas and nitro. For me personally I love the sound of a Saito, and will use them in anything I can that is scale. For a big 3D plane I'd go with a gas engine. I will say this...electric sure does run clean and its easy to tune! Lol. BUT...nothing compares to that sound of a 4 stroke...

@@ModelAV8RChannel thanks so much you have really helped me come up with a plan. I went to a really cool ama club Woodland/Davis aero-modelers only field in NorCal that runs turbines and gas year round (we have crazy fires in CA) And they all said what you did like word for word almost. Soooo I bought a balsa kit from old school model works little wood 3 channel wing that takes a cheap .15 nitro engine. Going to build it, join said club and the guys there said they are happy to help me get it working. I also bought one of those clear plastic engines you put together give me a rough idea of how a 4 stroke engine works. 2 stroke don't seem to have much in it. Thanks for always helping truly appreciate it. Have a good memorial day
I’m pretty sure “wow” would have been my most used word as well. Sweet bird! I’m going to take a wild guess and say this gentleman is an engineer?!?
