yes, its a really nice upgrade. with the dock and the setup for newer pi. The only thing I seen, that I didn't care for was the battery pack had a solder connection, Instead of a plug like most of the newer handhelds has now days. It would have been nice to see a plug for easy battery replacement or upgrade.

Yeah with the dock and cm4 I'll definitely be grabbing one of these. Sure, no analog joystick is a little annoying but way I see it, the more demanding games can be played via docked mode with an 8bit-do controller.

I really wish theyd added L2 R2... even more than adding the analog stick. maybe down the road theyll do a 2.5 model that has both 🤷‍♂️ looks beautiful tho and im still tempted, retroid pocket 2+ however has my full attention with its ps2 and gamecube compatibility and all the needed buttons and sticks. i may still grab one of these after a while tho ☺ why no L2 R2..... 😖😬

You should have just got a MiSTer. The mini consoles are cool for display, though... but for actually playing, nothing beats a MiSTer for the price. It is pretty much like original hardware with no lag and no need for upscalers, flash carts, and tons of scart/component cables. Computers and Pi 4 is great for arcade games not on MiSTer, though. But the mini consoles in terms of accuracy of the emulation is not as good as PC, Pi, or MiSTer. This is why they are just cool for displaying on a shelf. Don't choose your way to play just because it looks like a cool little console.

@@foamybelch You get what you pay for. I paid $400 for my MiSTer setup and I still need the MT32-Pi and an external hard drive for PS1/DOS/Saturn. The arcade cores alone are worth 200x that $400.

@@armamentarmedarm1699 Pi is cool as long as you inderstand its nowhere near as accurate as MiSTer. Problem is ignorant people think they are the same. If you can't afford a MiSTer that is fine also. Get what you can afford but understand what you are getting. Likely most people own laptops better than a Pi too... but I understand just wanting to have the Pi dedicated to hooking up to a TV. It is pretty powerful. I would buy one for Mame to hook to CRT TVs... unless its cheaper to just hookup and downscale my PC.

The only things this has that those other handhelds don't are the nostalgic design and the diy nature of it.

I do not mind the lack of an analogue stick. It stays closer to the gameboy design that way. The pi decices are rather powerful where the lack of said stick and the r2/l2 does limit it. They may have to jump to a more vita design. The dock makes it real tempting.

This looks to be a significant improvement over the original GPi case for the pi zero, and comparable to Experimental Pi's PiBoy DMG. The PiBoy does have an analogue stick but is also more expensive. I have a PiBoy case with a Pi 4 installed, and primarily play GameBoy Advanced and Old PS1 games which don't use the analogue stick, so I don't think the lack to an analogue stick on the GPI Case 2 would stop me wanting to buy the case, especially as I could always add an additional controller with analogue sticks via Bluetooth. The biggest issue for me is getting hold of the CM4 Compute module which always go out of stock very quickly.

Wow, this is really a huge update to the GPI Case. I bought the old one recently to use it with a Pi Zero 2, but sold it one day later. The voltage supply with 3 AA batteries was a joke, also the display quality was really bad because the resolution 320x240 is way to small for upscaling most of the retro systems. But also the colors of the display were bad (I compared it with my PS Vita with its nice OLED), very washed out and bad contrasts. Hope this is also improved on the GPI Case 2, not only the resolution and size. If so, this is a really interesting device.

This looks great. I just put a 02w in my original gpi, but i would love the built in battery, and to be running a pi4. Can you use an off the shelf dock/hub rather than the one they sell? (I assume yes). It would be great to be able to pair keyboard and mouse and use like a desktop in X or Wayland.

Great vid, ETA. Could you make a vid showing how to setup recalbox? It seems it's not as easy as setting the original gpi case with pi zero 2. Thanks!

Hello, On your video, at about 2:57, at the small notch (below the SD card slot, in the plastic shell), is it a 2 pin connector for a possible fan ? Thank you and good success with your great videos ;)

Can you do a video on how to get the CM 4 and script to work on the unit? The instructions are very vague to someone who isn't tech savvy.

Is the version with the dock already sold out? Both links are taking me to the $79.99 version without it and I can't find the bundle searching Amazon. This thing looks awesome.

This looks great for a mobile gaming platform, I doubt I'd play more involved titles that would require a analogue stick unless I'm at home and have it docked. So at that point I'd be using a controller anyway. I might just have to get one of these in the new year.

This looks good I’m really hoping that retroflag do a GPI advance case based on the game boy advance could have a bigger screen and also utilise the cm4 module that would be awesome maybe one day we will get it 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

Looks like they did a great job with it. Too bad it's so difficult to find a CM4. I think the Pi Foundation hurt availability by having 32 different SKUs, and the chip shortage definitely isn't helping either.

It's a fantastic concept, there are enough improvements to justify making a "2" case, not just an adaptor for the CM4, and give more options. Comparing with the Switch OLED, these guys seem to be thinking more on the customers than big companies. Being a bit nitpicky, I would have loved if this one resembled like the GB Color, but probably it's just a personal preference. Ah! and notice the change in the L and R buttons, they're greatly improved from the original.

I was planning on an anbernic handheld but having seen this I'm tempted. I already have their SNES case, and it's great - this could totally replace it. Only shame is that it's doesnt (understandably) take a Pi 4 standard as I could just switch over then...

PiBoy DMG has been out for quite some time and uses the regular pi4. Plus, it has more buttons and an analog stick.

That is a thicc boy. No L/R is pretty bad though. Pretty good argument for using a cm4 over a zero/etc. Saw the L/R in the final shots. Not bad.
