Hands-on Projects: The key to reducing dropout rates | Gabriel Bran Lopez | TEDxMontreal

When it comes to education, dropout rates, especially in troubled neighbourhoods is a serious issue. In this compelling talk, Gabriel Bran Lopez shares an innovative model which goes beyond theories to transform school from being perceived as an irrelevant chore into an engaging ecosystem.
"We don't ask our kids often enough what it is they want! That is at the heart of the problems of apathy, delinquency, and drop outs.” says Gabriel, “we need to get kids thinking about what they want to be rather than wondering what they could have been!". His Youth Fusion initiative has helped over 12 000 at risk youth by working on engaging hands-on projects with weekly mentors from over 11 universities and 40 companies. Gabriel believes it takes a village to keep children in school, not just to raise them. Be inspired to do this in your own city.

Thanks for the talk and I so agree with you. It is just like parenting. You can beat the lessons into their head but it doesn't mean anything if they do not have hands on experience. They say 'action is stronger than words' and I believe children strongly agree. Great talk!
