The new Smart Foundry in Lambertus Hall at Purdue University's Polytechnic college provides is an immersive, hands-on learning facility for engineering technology students. Students gain significant experience with metal-casting and small-batch component-making in the sensor-embedded, smart micro-manufacturing facility. This video shows a two-hour class session, condensed to 13 minutes. As you'll see, student teams have varying levels of success manufacturing metal parts - but in a learning environment like this, at a unique lab in a state-of-the-art building in the heart of campus, each class is a genuine learn-by-doing opportunity that provides valuable real-world experience. Purdue Polytechnic's Smart Foundry is one of several new labs in our smart manufacturing ecosystem.
