    The fact that Toriel doesn't actually know why Gaster is asking her this, the fact that their relationship is forever gone is just truly, terribly sad. Say what you will about Gaster in Handplates, but just place yourself in his shoes for a moment. The person you loved as an adoptive mother figure for decades, no longer knows who you are to them, no longer remembers the relationship you have built up with them and essentially just views you as a stranger. No matter where we are in time, Gaster always seems to suffer the hardest. I just hope he can find his happiness by the end of the series.

    @@CrisPyre Yeah, that is fair, just meant that some people hate Handplates Gaster so much, without even considering the trauma and pain he has gone through in his life. Not to mention ignoring that Asgore has also done horrible things. Or Flowey/Asriel. Yet no one seems to hate them when Flowey for example did objectively worse things that Gaster.

    @@pgreta1752 yeah I definitely love this version of gaster as not only he's relevant to the plot he feels human unlike the actual canon version of him which is just watching the player make decisions and be the hidden lore in the story

    gaster hearing toriel’s words about how she could only think about not letting asgore’s plan succeed and only being reminded of what he’s done, how nobody would ever forgive him, how toriel, practically his mother, would never forgive him, and hate him forever, yet he knows, he did this to himself. he deserves this punishment. it might make him selfish or self-absorbed, but he can’t help but acknowledge how much it _hurts_ to be seen like that, even indirectly, by people he considered family. man, i love handplates.

    Dang, it's really sad that Gaster got answers on why Toriel left. And it's even sadder to know that Toriel apologized to a complete stranger who, back in her mind, is her foster son.

  • @missjulyfarraday

    Those pages were so sad for me... I'm so frustrated with Toriel, especially in the Handplates context. You don't stop being a mother just because you have marital conflicts. But Toriel did... (The fact she doesn't remember Gaster NOW is irrelevant. She fleed the kingdom when she still remembered him.) Well, at least she apologized... But Gaster has all the right in the world to feel hurt. And the Dreemurrs really aren't handling this right here. Toriel, if you have anything to tell Asgore, DO IT YOURSELF! Don't use Gaster as a messenger! And Asgore, he really shouldn't put Gaster in the middle in the first place. Wanna give Toriel some flowers to try reconciliate? Man up and go give them YOURSELF! Really, Gaster was the maturest one in this situation... He really handled this talk well. He asked, got his answers, accepted them, politely walked away. Though the talk would've probably been more emotional if Toriel still remembered Gaster. Anyways, good job as always, Phoe.

    This may sound hard. But despise being a royal family. The Dreemurr in general are pretty much d tier when it comes to making good decision in general. Acting out of emotions is doomed to fail eventually. It nothing to be ashamed but you have to come to face this problem at some point. And with all that sad i don't hate the Dreemurrs after all being bad at a certain things and making bad decisions, doesn't change the fact that they genuinely carrying and loving people. It just is the case that they mistake often affect more people then they would like. Well with big responsibility comes great risk after all.

    I am always glad when people call out the elephant in the room. That Toriel pretty muched dipped out of her responsibility as a Queen and left Asgore to deal with the scraps of a hopeless and despairing kingdom. I'm not saying she had to stay married. If a relationship makes you unhappy, it probably isn't worth keeping. BUT THIS WAS ONE INCIDENT. And she suddenly decides "He's angry and saying horrible things about wanting to kill humans. Instead of calming him down and reasoning with him, I'm gonna leave and not tell anyone where I went, and make things harder for him AND my kingdom because my feelings are hurt after this one incident." Toriel is not a bad person. But she is a hypocrite if she thinks she has any ground to stand on, when Asgore at least TRIED to keep hope alive and not ducking responsibility.

    Regardless of Gaster’s role in the Dreemur’s lives, it’s not often that I see fans criticize Toriel for leaving the throne. Even if you don’t care for Asgore’s feelings or find his actions actions justifiably infuriating, Toriel was Queen. She was just as responsible for her kingdom as Asgore was and she just abandoned her duties without a word, to a point people thought she was dead. It wasn’t right or fair of her to leave everything behind without thinking of the consequences first. Hell, maybe if she had stayed, things wouldn’t have spiraled so out of control for Asgore in the first place. She didn’t need to stay with him if she didn’t want to anymore, but she still had a kingdom to answer for.

  • @KingofAces5912

    YES. FINALLY. Toriel abandoned her husband and kingdom when her guidance and support were needed most, and try to foil the King’s plan that would earn his People’s freedom. And ASGORE’S the bad guy?? 🙄Fucking ridiculous

  • @gothicMCRgirl

    @gothicMCRgirl

    Жыл бұрын

    @@KingofAces5912 To be completely fair, I don’t think the fanbase as a whole think that Asgore was the bad guy. It was a tough situation with no winners and Asgore, as King, needed to pick a side. That’s all. He chose to side with his people, which is what any monarch should do, even though he clearly never wanted to do it. I just think that if Toriel had stayed, they could’ve brainstormed together for other alternatives. Alphys and Gaster both could’ve come up with alternative solutions, but even forgetting about the issues with the barrier, Toriel needed to be present for the sake of her people. And she wasn’t. In fact, if she had stayed, she could’ve overturned Asgore’s ruling if she really wanted to. It’s clear Asgore deferred to his wife a lot, if Toriel really wanted to change Asgore’s mind, she could have.

    I feel like Gaster is more worried about Asgore than himself. Like Asgore nearly feels the exact same Tori does. as they've both made near terrible mistakes. If only Toriel could see how much Asgore really regretted what he had done. maybe they'd be able to work it out or at least be friends again..

    @1:57 toriel i love you but let me stop you right there. that line of thinking is what got so many of us players in trouble in the first place, we always thought "it's just a game saving and loading are apart of that", "anything bad happens we can undo it and fix it......" Even when Undertale ITSELF was trying to tell us, "Some mistakes are meant to be made", That stories aren't always meant to be played more then once because if you know what's coming it removes the fun from the game......and that you learn more from failure then success. and we didn't listen we Fucked up HARD, a lot of players chose just to kill because "haha funny" or because they didn't like the game. some like myself did it on accident and retried until we learned away around it. but undoing things is a curse and what's worse is frisk died a lot. Even if we can "undo it", the trauma we inflicted on them will be there FOREVER..... and its all -our- my fault I failed ..... and I did a lot of things I shouldn't have tried. by changing things you learn nothing, death is a part of life.....and I was so overprotective of the monsters and their feelings that I ended up neglecting Frisk treating them as they were a "toy on a string for me to move in"........ but even with all these regrets I personally wouldn't change it I learned more from what "I DID" then what I "could have done".
