Handmade Paper Process | Pt2 | Making Pulp & 5x7 Paper

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this part, I chop up the blue hydrangeas, make pulp, and do a demonstration using the 5x7 mold and deckle. I also go into more detail about how I stack the papers to dry, other general information about the paper making process, and a few shortcuts I have learned through trial and error.

Excellent tutorial! I was wondering...does the handmade paper crack or split when you fold it? Thanks.❣

I haven't (as of yet) had any crack or split! However, certain conditions might cause it. For instance, a too-thick sheet might crack, and too-thin one might break or tear. Other conditions would be the type of paper used in the pulp. A coarse paper would be more likely to crack when folded. If you mix in a little tissue/napkin, it would soften it and make it more pliable. Also, a pulp mixture with a high ratio of non-paper material (such as flower petals or other plant material) would make creases weak. Definitely use a scoring tool to make the paper cooperate better! ☺

@@papeteriedechoix Thanks Rebecca🧡 for the helpful reply. I see that it probably shouldn't be sewn in as a page in a journal but to be used in a different way.❣

@@debystein It probably could be sewn in if decoratively reinforced along the fold line. That's something I have yet to try, so that may be a video in the near future. I am already making some extra sheets to experiment on. I have used some of my handmade papers in a tag-shaped punch and used jute string. They would make great backgrounds for layering as cards and tags. 😃
