Handing Over 20 BG Diesel Locomotives To Bangladesh Railway By Government Of India
India has gifted 20 Indian WDM-3D broad gauge locomotives (engines) diesel powered to Bangladesh Railways. The neighboring country has handed over these locomotives to Bangladesh to solve the railway locomotive crisis.
Bangladesh Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan and Indian Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnab were virtually involved in the locomotive handover ceremony at Bangladesh Railway Bhavan at 4 pm on Tuesday (May 23).
Meanwhile, the ministers of both countries expressed hope that the friendship and mutual cooperation between Bangladesh and India will increase in the future.
Bangladesh received 10 broad gauge locomotives as a donation from India in 2020. Currently they are running on different routes of the country’s railways. In a meeting held between the Railway Ministers of Bangladesh and India on June 1 last year at the Railway Building in New Delhi, a request was made to grant 20 BG locomotives to Bangladesh Railways. Later, during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s visit to India in September of that year, the issue of giving 20 BG locomotives from Indian Railways was mentioned in the joint statement of the Prime Ministers of the two countries.
