Handel - Zadok the Priest (BEST VERSION EVER !!!) with lyrics

Музыка

WITH LYRICS!
Coronation Anthem No. 1 by George Frideric Handel
Chapions League Theme Song
ARGUMENT:
Most versions have a rather fast Intro, but then have a slow second part. I don't like that, it should be the other way around. Here's the version I like.
LYRICS
Zadok the priest, and Nathan the prophet
anointed Solomon king.
And all the people rejoic'd, rejoiced and said:
God save the king! Long live the king!
May the king live for ever!
Amen! Amen! Alleluia!
Zadok der Priester und Nathan der seher
erhöh'ten Salomos Thron.
Und alles Volk rings frohlockt, frohlocket und rief:
Gott sei dein Schild, Heil sei mit dir!
Heil dem König auf ewig!
Amen! Amen! Alleluia!

The first part of this piece is truly astonishing. The arpeggio builds beautifully, changing to a lovely minor key before the sun-bursting release of choir and trumpets. It's completely regal and divine as intended, and leaves the listener stunned... Then the rest of the piece plonks along with less than a tenth the majesty of the first 2 minutes. It's as if Handel didn't know what to do afterwards.

I live in Central Tennessee, a lovely very wealthy place with more churches than people. The average Jesus FREAK here is to dumb to have ever heard of this GLORIOUS ENGLISH ORATORIO. When I tell them about it, they are confused because it is not some god awful C and W CRAP. Actually there are some real music lovers here, the Nashville Symphony and their chorus are MAGNIFICENT. I have been lucky as I lived in Chicago for 33 years and the are very few things in this world that can compete with the MIGHTY CSO. This is a fabulous performance, I jumped to my feet and conducted the entire work. My beautiful11 year old granddaughter loves the music as well but she runs off to her grandmother saying " Granddad is waving his arms about again".

Having sang this in choir 13 or so years ago, I agree with your statement that the intro should be slow and the main part quicker! This is close to how we sang it! Simply epic piece of music. I love the pictures. I feel the intro is putting us in a place in history, evoking old times. Your chosen pictures match the music exactly. The intro is setting the scene and getting us ready to celebrate the new King. It was great to see and hear it in its proper context at King Charles' coronation.

For those acking questions, see Wikipedia entry below: Although part of the traditional content of British coronations, the texts for all four anthems were picked by Handel-a personal selection from the most accessible account of an earlier coronation-for that of James II of England in 1685.[1] The text is derived from the biblical account of the anointing of Solomon. These words have been used in every English, and later British, coronation since that of King Edgar at Bath Abbey in 973.

@William Doubleu There's nothing so perfect than being born between the right pair of legs right? As a Republican, the queen is the absolute antithesis to meritocracy, hard work, and opportunity for all. Oh if I have been born to opulence and limitless opportunity! She represents a by-gone age that should have stopped in the late 18th century. I do find it ironic, however, that Brits will say 'We shall never, ever, ever be slaves' when they are exactly that! It's one of the greatest moments of irony seeing proud 'independent' brits under the Queen and the EU. It certainly proves that Rousseau was right, 'Man is born free but everywhere he is in chains.' I would say one day they will wake up to it but they will not. They are slaves to their culture. Their minds have regressed from enlightenment. They cannot even see the virtues of Schumpeter's philosophy! They'll still keep voting for the same idiots in power, regardless of how much they complain. Just look at who their future leader is, an Etonian, another member of the Victorian age. Perhaps the Brits deserve their overlords. They deserve having 'their betters' rule them. They'll never take up the responsibility to govern themselves. They are lost children who need their masters.

@@e.conboy4286 By the Naturalisation Act of 1727, Handel became a British subject; though born a German, his music is actually very Italian influenced (though increasingly tweaked to English tastes), especially when compared to ‘proper’ German composers like JS Bach and Telemann. In short, he was avant la lettre a sort of EU citizen.
