On low levels I would recommending only recklessly attacking when facing creatures without multi attack. If the action economy is in your disadvantage it can very quickly turn nasty, but as you increase in hitpoints giving the enemies advantage to hit you is a great way to convince your DM to actually attack you which means they aren't hitting your weaker comrades. The reason I know this I did reckless attack against a night hag and she utterly gutted me because she has multiattack and I didn't.

I played a Barbarian. He's an NPC now, because he kinda killed and decapitated 2/3rds of the rest of the party. Upside: That outcome was planned even before the character was created. But, I did feel a bit of kinship to Grog, in that my combat was usually "Apply Greatsword to face. Repeat as necessary."

I am digging the Path of Storm Herald for the Tundra Soul. Temporary HP to all of your nearby allies EACH ROUND, plus your Storm Soul lets you freeze a 5ft cube of water into ice for 1 minute... like if your ship hits a reef and you need a quick patch to stop from sinking while your crew fixes the hole. Plus, with a curve-bladed glaive shaped like a hockey stick and a Canadian accent, you got yourself a fun character to roleplay, eh.

funny thing is both of travis' characters helped to inspire one of my favorite characters to build ever. Gan'on'Venom a Tiefling Barbarian/Warlock who actually thinks before letting his rage consume him meaning it's not only his barbaric rampages you have to fear but his cunning traps. There was one encounter where he was alone with a gang of pirates who had attacked one of the party members. The pirates were screaming out to attack before he could rage to which he smiled. "Rage? Oh no no no dear boys and girls I think we can go a little darker after all you hurt my friend...rage would be too quick...I'd like to savor this hunt..." before snapping his fingers casting darkness over the area. He then proceeded to take his time slaughtering the lot of them letting their screams echo in the darkness for dramatic effect. All they could do is cower and stumble blindly while he picked them off one by one as he had Devil's Sight allowing him to see in magical darkness clearly up to 120 ft.

One of the funniest builds, that one! A lot of fun with it, and if you get Pact of the Blade, then you're basically always ready to fight, and you can't be stripped of neither a weapon, nor armour, so good luck imprisoning that one.
@Chaser547

Plus the terror of running into a Barbarian that can think. He's much more complex than your generic barbarian or warlock and has actually used words to end conflicts as well. Also since I took path of the storm herald on barbarian he is resistant to lightning damage and can breath underwater with a 30ft swim speed. Still waiting for a chance to use it for an ambush scenario cause I want him to make creepy whispers with Thamaturgy and then just rise from the water to cleave some poor shmuck in two that or grab people from the water and rage activating my storm aura (I know it wouldn't increase the damage but the imagery is just too beautiful to ignore >=D )

I used to have fun with the character before Xanathar's Guide came out and there were UA invocations. Namely: Claw of Acamar (before they scrapped the idea of patron-locked invocation, which I personally think were very cool). Claw of Acamar is a 1h flail with reach property (which in itself is awesome as hell) and smiting with it reduces the target's speed to 0 (but doesn't knockdown like the today's smite does). With that invocation in mind I went for a Great Old One warlock and Totem barbarian with Bear totem at 3rd level, just reflavoured to be an Umberhulk instead of a bear, since my character was an escaped slave of Illithids, and spent much of his life in Underdark. Since we were playing up until 20th lvl, I ended up as 15 warlock / 5 barbarian, using the pact flail and a magical shield + unarmored defense gave me quite a high AC, resistance to all damage (all except psychic from bear, and psychic from great old one) with some bursting potential due to smites and rage. Granted, at the highest levels my DM rolled a Rod of Absorbtion in the loot (look it up - amazing for Warlocks for their smites), and indulged me by creating a circlet that allowed me to concentrate on (any) spell and cast cantrips (and only cantrips) while raging, which was cool.
Grog is one of those characters I will remember on my deathbed (hopefully) many many years from now. Such a memorable and delightful character.

I'm creating a character right now for a new campaign that is about to start with friends and I am inspired to make a grave cleric after seeing Caduceus in action.
Pure entertainment value for me. Don't need beginners guides just need more Travis!
Yeaaaaaah. I’m gonna rage
Travis is the bestest, beautiful treasure in all the hordes!! 💚💜⚔
Remember that you only get so many rages per day so don't waste them on peons early on. Also Tavern Brawler let's you bump up your unarmed attacks for those unscripted battles in places that make you check your weapons at the door. Dex is also a good stat to keep high because it will also make you harder to hit
This is such a quick, and simple build, I see it as a great base to build something more interesting on. Because you don't have to invest much in Game Mechanics to make it effective, you can then focus on affectations, and other nifty things to make it more interesting. In games where Role Play>Roll Play. It's always handy to have a Barbarian in the party, but that doesn't mean he has to be a Boring one. Even Conan had a rich backstory.

One of my all-time favorites was Vera Beryl. None of the characters even noticed She was a female Dwarf for several adventures, because her Beard got in the way. She was also a Jewler, hence the name. She was named for her brilliant Emerald colored eyes, and all of her Adventuring was to find gold, and jewels to supply her business.

I wish the cast of critical role would do a vox machina themed stretch goal next time they fundraise, like VM as old people doing one last adventure together or a chat show completely in character.
I just love Travis so much. Such a good human being.
Watching today, As I start playing my new Goliath Barbarian, for last minute guidance and inspiration
Im whole-heartedly suprised there was no mention as to the importantce of Dexterity in a Barbarians build. More AC with their unarmored defence, better initiative, having better reflex saves against at least 60% of offensive magics. Never forget my DnD brothers that you can make an incredibly potent dex build barbarian. Let that advantage on strength checks whilst raging be your bonus to strength and enjoy smacking away at your enemies. (Yes I understand strength also has it's uses and playing a dex build severely limits your weapon options. But Dexterity in 5e is as fundamentally important to every class as Constitution is)
I'm low-key in love with Travis.
This has been the best video in the series so far. Also ale.
