Love it. Using hand tool methods is awesome. Nothing like scraping 10 year old putty off a knife. Nice job brother.

Thank you, for the information. I picked up a knife very much like your from an estate sale yesterday for 50 cents. I needed to know how to restore the blade. My handle is near pristine condition....the wood is heavy and appears to be walnut....but I'm not sure. Is the metal at the base of the handle pewter? Appreciate your help!

Thanks for watching! I think the bolster was some kind of cast zinc or aluminum. You may want to also check out my latest video where I use homemade scotch brite discs for the dremel to clean-up the blade and handle. kzread.info/dash/bejne/kXmhp9Nqh5i-iZc.html

Nice job! I have been keeping an eye out for wood handle putty knives ever since Scoutcrafter started talking about them. I think it was Jimmy Diresta who did a restoration where he used black linseed oil on a wood handle, it looked pretty cool. Anyway thanks for sharing, cheers.

I bought this because ScoutCrafter told us to! LOL I was surprised that the wood was in such good shape. I guess the dried putty preserved it.

Thanks! It looks like it was well made. I was hoping for a maker's mark on the blade - either it never had one or the rust took it.

  • @DavidPlass

I wonder if you could use the belt sander on that blade and get more of the rust damage off? It's your restoration so it's up to you, of course.

Thanks for watching! The rust pitting was very deep. Plus I was not going to try to disassemble it. I think the "aged" metal matches the look of the wood.

It sounds like a ukulele, not a baritone ukulele.

I checked with my daughter. She confirms that it is a baritone ukulele. Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for more ukulele music!

Sounds like she's playing with GCEA strings like a standard ukulele. The baritone with standard DGBE strings has a more guitarish sound. Or she used a capo. It doesn't really matter to anyone. I would be curious is she has it tuned GCEA just as a test for my own ears!

OK so I sat my daughter down, put on the thumb screws and shined the bright lights in her eyes and she blamed me for calling her regular ukulele a baritone. Your ears were right! I'll fix the description. Meanwhile, check out my new video where my daughter is the star! kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2Snz7qTYdi0gpM.html
