Hand tool neck and body carving | Bass build part 9

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this video I attach the lower body wing after some more weight relief and a thought about pickup wires.
Then we’re all about the neck carving, and I’m doing it all with hand tools. No nasty power routers, but simple saws, chisels and spokeshaves!
This is not my entry into this years Great Guitar Build Off 2022, that will happen after this custom build is finished!

Your previous asymmetrical neck carve demonstration was a real inspiration for me. Also, a hand drill-mounted spindle sander might be something you'd find even more useful than the finger sander.

What a coincidence: I rough carved my neck last night! It's also asymmetrical, but with a trapezoidal profile. The spokeshave made quick work of it!

@@KingBespokeCreations I quite like it. When you're playing with your thumb behind the neck, it feels like your thumb has a more stable area to press down on, and as long as the edges are rounded it's perfectly comfortable. You should try it!

Looking schmick Chris Thanks for the shout out, I hope your little channel works better than mine I did mine on the wing, I even had feeder wires when I glued up and it didn’t work out too well I had to take a long drill bit and go in through the cutaway 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I made an asymmetrical neck profile on one of the guitars I’m building (it was actually the first neck I ever carved) and it’s insanely comfortable

My one piece bass build has me perplexed with all those issues and more. Truss rod install for example, how? Rear? Drill a really deep hole? I would like to know your ideas?

  • @KingBespokeCreations

If your one piece includes the fretboard, then I guess you’d have to go with a skunk stripe for the truss rod?

OK, I'm jumping ahead of you, here, but i'm working on my plans for a multiscale bass. Wondering what you are planning for the bridge? It seems there is little choice in this arena, apart from seperate solo bridge/saddles, but any recommendations you might have would be gratefully received!

  • @KingBespokeCreations

I’m using the separate bridge pieces. Unless you can make your own, there isn’t much choice.

What's the strange noise in the background? Sounds like someone a mile away is beating up a plate reverb with a sledge hammer lol.
