    This video is 8 years old and I wanted to say thank you for this i have a pumpkin plant growing and the flower growing the pumpkin would die I had no clue what I was doing wrong. I was kinda sad because I have this big plant growing and nothing to show for it :( I didn’t know why they kept dying. Well after seeing this video I realized the bees aren’t pollinating my pumpkins 😭so I’ve been waking up everyday at 630am to see what flowers were blooming. Today finally the females flowers opened up and I pollinated them 🎉 hopefully I get something. Thank you for this 8 year old video

    Once the flower is been pollinated it will start growing a pumpkin immediately. Depending on the pumpkin plant is dependent on how long it will take to grow a pumpkin. You may need to Google that one for your specific pumpkin plant.

    I’m not sure why you are getting flower drop before they open but if you force them open before they will not be able to be pollinated. They have to open on their own but they only open for one day.

    It is normal for male flowers to fall off but I’ve never really heard of female flowers falling off before they open. Usually female flowers will fall off if they do not get pollinated. Correction on my last post, the female flowers do you stay open for a day or two. Maybe you can ask this question on my group where there are thousands of other people? Do the flowers not have both parts, stamen and stigma?

  • @homefarmideas

    @homefarmideas

    Жыл бұрын

    Very good question Joseph! This Pumpkin plant has both stigma and stamen but they are not both in the same singular flower. The plant itself produces both male and female flowers. Pumpkin plants have separate male and female flowers, but both types of flowers can be found on the same plant. The male flowers typically develop first and produce pollen, while the female flowers develop later and contain the ovary, which eventually develops into the fruit (pumpkin). Pollination occurs when pollen from the stamen is transferred to the stigma, allowing fertilization and fruit development to take place. It’s kind of like this, the earth would be the main “plant” (pumpkin plant). God created us from the dust of the earth. He created us male and female. I’m a Christian so I put a little bit of a Christian spin on it but the idea is one in the same. The plant being the earth that has male and female parts separately but still on the same planet (plant). I hope that makes sense.

    @Home Farm Ideas so my two blooms that first appeared, should I lop them off (now that they're closed) and save the pollen from the stamen to transfer to the stigma of another bloom? I definitely understand pollination to a certain degree. I didn't know pumpkin blooms only last a day, and I want babies. 😅
