    Beautiful! This is how my paternal grandmother taught us to piece stars! I have an antique top that wasn't finished and I believe the sewer didn't know how toease the star points! I have been wondering if I dampen the centers, if I could work some magic 🤔 So many times I've seen circles appliqued to star centers .Probably why mariners compass etc all have circles in the centers. 🎉

    Great video Wendy, thank you for making this! I feel like most tutorials show a larger finished star, this is wonderful seeing a tutorial on a smaller scale

    This is a wonderful video, Wendy. Those 8 points meeting together is always pesky, but with your method is much easier. I used this video to complete my second star block and it went together so much better. Thanks!

    WONderful technique - Thank you!!! 🥰👏 But would it not be even flatter if you pressed all the seams open?

  • @wendysquiltsandmore

    @wendysquiltsandmore

    4 жыл бұрын

    HI Bonnie. Pressing the seams open would not work well for hand piecing. The seams would be very weak because there are less stitches per inch that on the sewing machine, and there's only a single thread - not like the machine where there's one from the top and the bobbin at the bottom. But I do understand your thinking. It's just wouldn't work well for hand piecing.

    how do you sew stubborn concave to convex curves? I am sewing green beans and sweet tea by Jen Kingwelll and I am having issues.

  • @wendysquiltsandmore

    @wendysquiltsandmore

    Jen Kingwell taught me to "Sew with a smile, not a frown". That means keep the upward curve (smile) closest to you. Put the other piece on the back. Mark your registration points - the centre, and additional points if it's a long curve. Pin both ends. Then pin the centre mark together. Add extra pins if necessary. Take small stitches. Keep practicing! Good luck.

    Wendy can I use the same concept for eight pointed epp ?

  • @wendysquiltsandmore

    Possibly, but you would need to remove the papers first (at least partially at the tips). The same principle of sewing right to the tip certainly applies.

  • @wendysquiltsandmore

    @@caanje1 Hi Carol. It's not the Star a Day pattern, but it's the same principle. It does take practice to get the centres correct. I recommend you keep trying and be sure to go through the top of all the pieces. Have you got lines drawn or printed on the back of your fabric? They are essential when hand piecing. Don't just eyeball it. I hope that helps.
