It is something we will do to our friends for fun but they also might take it personally, so we would rather not. (Search "Greek mountza" in Google and go to pictures you will understand a bit more about it) Edit: for those saying how to greet someone in Greece, it's not wrong to greet someone by using your hand. Not really, we have a LOT of insults (which, some of the most used are pretty much just “f*ck ur mom” but actually considered offensive). They understand what the middle finger means too, in China I once heard someone call the it the “international hand sign of insulting people” XD

To clarify, it is not offensive just putting up your hand like that. Fingers have to be evenly spaced out and you have to move your head towards the other person. In the scenario you wrote about, no Greek would be offended.
