Hand Appliqué Technique Using Perfect Circles (Ep. 109)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Our guest, (and Creative Director) Michelle Sheler shows how to turn the edges for this hand appliqué technique. The technique she uses includes: Mary Ellen's Best Press, Karen Kay Buckley's Perfect Circles, fabric scissors, Clover Mini Iron II.
Mark your fabric based on the size circle you want to use. Cut it out allowing for approximately 1/4" extra. A running stitch allows for anchoring the fabric down. Apply the Best Press with a paint brush, then press with the Mini Iron. Allow to dry before removing the mylar piece. You can use this technique with any shape that doesn't have an inside curve or sharp points.
This is Lesson 4b in Nancy M. Roelfsema's, "Learning To Quilt" curriculum.

These lessons are fantastic and the best thing is, they are free. Just think how much it would cost to take all these lessons privately. Wow, I am really thankful for your tutorials. Another advantage is that you can play them again and again to make sure you understand a technique.

Thanks also for the tip of putting the mini-iron in a ceramic cup for a place to rest - great idea!

I love using the perfect circles, but because of arthritis in my hands, i always struggle tying the knot after gathering the fabric. Many thanks, Michelle, for showing me a way to use the circles without tying the knot!
