If the letters weren't changing on the screen, I bet you could play this to every "audiophile" on the planet and they wouldn't know they were listening to 2 different cartridges being constantly switched.

You are right, but you could include any group, not just "audiophiles" in general. The most important quality of this video, and other tests, is to be able to hear just what the differences are, and therefore decide which one to purchase.

I can hear the difference even on YT with cheap office on-ear headphones. A is fuller, more body sound. Enjoy it more. B seems to have less body, probably more details. More body on strings and vocals is better for me, but it could vary on different type of music.
Wow it’s really difficult to tell these cartridges apart. A has slightly more air and a bit more extended top end but B sounds slightly fuller with a bit more body. Really really close! I would say A is the Red and B is the MH. Amazing comparison and keep up the good work!

I would have selected B as slightly more open, airy and detailed but honestly wouldn't know without the A B on screen - they are extremely close in Audio terms but not in $$$
I think B is the Unami, a little more open, definitely some more depth.
B is a bit more subtile. B is Unami

Another fantastic bit of content! Thank You! It's a real treat for me to listen so intently for the smallest details. Both sound so good to me. Wearing wireless B&W headphones was a little disconcerting hearing some background 'knocking' and sort of wooden clatter very low in the mix. Couldn't tell if it was piano hammers or pedals or something else random in the studio. I had to remove the headphones to make sure it wasn't happening in my house. As far as which is which , I agree with most of the comments about 'air' in A, but also I think B has a more sophisticated soundstage presentation...so at the moment I think B is the Umami. Thanks for what you do!

After listening to musical with the Hana MH I can firmly recommend it, it’s so good that the rest of your set up components will fail/be the bottleneck before it fails to reproduce the most demanding recordings and it doesn’t cost and arm or aleg to purchase it.
To me the B cartridge sounds better with deeper bass and a wider sound scene. It seems the stylus of the B cartridge to track the groove more accurately.
I listened to the high resolution file available for comparison and I have a worthy audio system and 'unfortunately' old ears, but the sure winner between the two is definitely the one that costs less, the differences are really minimal, it may be that on other levels of 'esoteric' type of audio system the differences are more pronounced, thanks for the video, a greeting!

B has nice center with adequate LR separation. Work together to provide a warmer, relaxed overall presentation. A is brighter center Mid-highs are stronger than B which changes the soundstage vs. B Overall, for this music, I prefer B. A may work better on other types of music. My 2 cents.......

Incredible !! 👀👀 For me, Hana MH seems to be better as Hana Umami Red ?
Both cartridges sound great, but cartridge B sounds a bit better and has a more dynamic open sound to my ears - there’s a greater degree of “realism” to its sound (it’s more forward in its presentation). I think cart B is the Umami Red. Time will tell.

@@HiFisquarepants I re-listened to both cartridges today. When comparing 5:01 (B) and 5:26 (A), the piano on 5:26 (A) does have a more realistic sound. Weird. Because B sounded better to me yesterday (but I was listening through the downloaded files). FYI: the download files are not of the same song as you post here for comparison but are Dire Straits. What I will say is that if one is looking to save a few thousand dollars on a cartridge that’s not far behind it’s flagship one, then the Hana MH may not be such a bad choice. While there are differences between each, they are not as drastic enough to warrant more than double the price. In the end, both are fantastic cartridges.

I know already both cartridges from before. Umami is B: deeper bass (sometimes even could be too much or too thick) and more "micro" information, but at the same time dark harmonics compared with MH. In that way MH is easier to hear: light and sparkling, feeling even more precise i some moments or depending the music and the rest of the equipment you have. Just this is a very good and short test; with longer listening and more kind of music the differences start to appear more obvious. Umami is very expensive compared with MH so great to know is possible to have great (same or even more) pleasure with a part of the investment. Great test 👍👍
I go with A as the Umami Red, the double bass has more depth and control/texture. The piano more air and shine. Both carts have similar soundstage. Great test. Also what a fantastic recording, I’m searching for a copy right now.

Both sound very good. In the track of Round 1 I found it difficult to hear much of a difference, it was extremely subtle. But I did hear a more clear difference in round 2. The biggest difference I heard was in the sample starting at 3:52 (B) vs 4:15 (A). Cartridge A brings out the voice more clearly and more separated from the other instruments than cartridge B. In general I feel Cartridge A has a preciser and more detailed soundstage compared to B. Some micro details in the transients seem more clearly defined with cartridge A. So I guess Cartridge A must be the expensive Umami Red. But if the difference in sound quality is worth the price difference is debatable I guess. If I'm wrong, than the MH is a very good deal 😅

After the video and the files I choose the B, both lovely cartridges by the way 👍👍
I could not tell through KZread, the differences were too small. I did open up the lossless samples, and then I could notice a slight difference. B has brighter trebles, and a more detailed sound. A is a little more relaxed, a little warmer. But I had to listen to a small section on a loop over and over again with Hifiman HE1000 Stealth headphones to notice the difference. I preferred A because I think B would get a bit fatiguing after a long time. I'm guessing the Umami Red is B? Let's find out!
These are almost impossible to tell apart. I hear "A" as having a minute amount of extra 'air'. Other than that, they are basically identical.

This is strange, looking at the curve in adobe audition frequency analysis (lossless samples) both AAA and BBB samples show the typical Rothwell MCX curve (a flatter curve in which the very-high frequencies are particularly well represented), which is virtually impossible, since the MCX is only used in the Umami Red signal chain..... unfortunately i lost your old Hana MH recordings, but i clearly remember a different curve...... Well... i recovered your Hana MH Alan Parsons' Eye In The Sky and, actually, the curve is very similar to the umami red & MCX....... so nothing strange....

Remember these two are only competing against each other and their price difference. I wonder how the AT oc9 s would fare against both for less money? This price performance disparity happens a lot in the audio industry. Its really about having patience doing research and its possible to save a LOT of money and put together a great sounding system.

B is more open with more air. It is revealing, delicate and nuanced.
Unami for me is the "B"
A has a slight more clarity.
The differences are very light…. There is a lack of high frequencies in both. The voice appears like behind a velvet blanket. I suppose that all such bad features can depend heavily by the chain of pre-phono, pre-amp, analog to digital converter and cables used.

Red is better than the MH for sure. But 3 times the price better? Umm, 🤔
The second sounds thinner lighter. So there is a clear difference.....
B is a much wider sound stage with being able to hear the different frequency piano strings placement to the tee. A first for me to be able to notice that! the higher notes went over to the right channel as it would be in real life. B is the hands down winner for the nice sound stage and pinpoint accuracy for the stereo image. B makes A boring my friend. that's just listening straight from youtube by the way.

Saludos!

Both are real good. Makes you wonder if you ever need to spend over 1k.
