Hey! I'm the guy who wrote Hamsterball. It was a blast watching this video. :) I did the game to address the absolute lack of Marble Madness type games on computers at the time! And because the graphics are so basic (the checkerboards are 2x2 textures) that it was able to run on very, very, very low end machines at the time. Glad to see a lot of people had a good time with it... there's a sequel actually about 75% done (with an editor, too), but I keep having other things pop up that keep setting it back. 2019 is a possibility. And yes, it'll have online racing!

Nostalgia OVERLOAD I completely forgot about this game, memories were flooding back of me playing this on Windows Xp with a mouse sadly never could get past that expert race. Thanks for reminding of this amazing game Bandy! Really pumped to play this game again!

Are you on a quest to find and play every little-known game I played as a kid? EDIT: Actually, when you get the hang of it, the mouse improves your performance and makes a lot of the "really annoying parts" easier, especially the Impossible Race. Just like with the keyboard, you have to get used to the controls. It's harder to with the mouse, but it's more than worth it in the end. Also, while they didn't make a sequel, they did make Hamsterball Gold (which is what you played) and a PS3 version. The PS3 version is significantly easier, but it also sucks beyond belief.

+Kasu Daka I suppose it's not terrible, but I don't like how they got rid of the awesome music, changed the perspective, and nerfed the physics (you can do a lot you couldn't do in the original without breaking the ball). I guess I just liked the original too much to accept the changes they made. +MineBoom Hamsterball Gold is basically "Hamsterball Deluxe." It pretty much just has more races than the original (the Neon, Glass, and Impossible ones). I actually didn't know it was on PS2.

True that, after trying keyboard, mouse, and controller. I was able to most easu get all of the best time trial medals with the mouse at highest sensitivity

That ending fight scene had me in stiches! Really liked this video, it may be my favourite of the NB Originals so far. It was really cool seeing a game that I'd never heard of, which also seems like a hidden gem. Great work Nathaniel, looking forward to the next original.

4:05 What do you mean? The mouse is literally the easiest thing to use in controlling the hamster. It’s the keyboard and the limited direction it offers that hinders you.

Minus jamming out to it by playing instruments and only bopping my head to what I was hear in the game. For anyone curious, you should at least give it a listen. It's a rockin' tune that absolutely slaps. Just look up "Mega Man ZX Advent Slam Down".

Complicated Story to that, i have a communication with john raptis (Creator of hamsterball) and they have done business deals for people to pay to put their name on the game, but a lot of them have "Gold" on them, it's not an enhanced version it's just a diffren't company. So zoo zoo pets proboly payed a lot for it too be its own game.

Hamsterball was my childhood game and i loved it. This was the most fun i had ever. But it was the PS3 version but it was super fun.

I LOVED the PC version of this game, and I actually own the Zhu Zhu Pets version (which actually has an additional two or three levels in comparison to the main PC version I played when I was younger - the Neon, Glass, and Impossible races weren't there in every version) from Big Fish. I actually played this game a lot as a kid, and I always thought I was kinda alone in that regard. I'm happy to have been proven wrong.

When I was in my early years I remember coming home from first grade and playing hamster ball until bedtime. The version I played and still have looks different from the version shown in the video though. The camera is directly behind the hamster and it looks a lot more polished than what I believe is the Windows XP edition.

Hamster Ball is my childhood. Me and my mother played this game when i was young. And i love it!

That last scene is what I call a budget fight

This is one of the first platformer games I ever played as a child. It certainly will remind you of sonic with its vibrant, colorful graphics and awesome music. I did play Marble madness after it, which maybe the origins of this game, but I think hamsterball is a superior game simply because it has more variety.
