Anya Burniston it’s a debated topic now. I’m trying to do the research. But when Pam did this we added water to it and mixed it and it went to clay type. The sand is dusty but I have not had any problems as of yet. Dusty stuff can effect hamster ( Respiratory problems etc) my advice would be look around about this and reviews . I personally have gone to play sand just to be safe. Plus you get more . I’m sorry this is not much help . Maybe some one on here can go into depth.

HammyLux I’m so freaking glad you got a new hamster I would’ve stuck with you no matter what happened you’re the reason I have 2 hammys and 3 other pets😊

I was so sad when they changed the formula. I also used it for years until the change. The manufacturer keeps denying that they changed anything, which is obviously false. Those of us that have used it for years are outraged over it!

Iv always used tiny friends and never had an issue I'll definitely check the labels for the UK boxes

Nice haul! I use the National Geographic Golden Sunset Sand. It's very safe for hamsters.

I love you so much! Beavis is just so adorable. I'm currently trying to buy a 55 gallon tank for my hamster Peach, she is in a bin cage right now. Nothing is wrong with the cage but Peach is definitely more on the adventurous side, and loves to climb around things a lot. Thank you so much I realised that the colour changed when I bought some sand of the internet because my pet stores weren’t selling any, and realised it was grey. At first I was a bit suspicious but still used it. I have been using it for a while now but will definitely be getting thrown in the bin. I will be buying chinchilla sand now but hope to God my hamster is alright. I checked on him last night and he looked completely fine❤️

I have always just used plain reptile sand (no added calcium or anything) for my hamsters. You can get 10 lb bags for fairly cheap

indianasc0nes just reptisand is fine. But again, as long as there are NO additives such as calcium or other random vitamins and it is just plain sand then other brands technically should be ok too

Sabrina Hernandez it’s already sterilized which is the great part about it, unlike children’s play sand that you have to bake first to kill anything inside it
