Hamms Beer Scenorama sign late 50s early 60s vintage repair
Ғылым және технология
Just a verbal description of a repair to get the scnen-o-rama moving again after it had stopped working. Lights were OK. Had to rebuild a roller that the scene belt rotated on that had water damage and started to de-laminate and separate. Someone did a hack job of masking taping the de-laminated roller for a lazy fix. I re-glued the 3 layers of cardboard to restore the integrity of the roller. Cleaned out all old oil and gummy grease on motor and roller bearings. Re-lubed everything and straightened out some sheet metal holding things in place that were bent. Did general cleaning and all is well as you can see in the video. I love these signs. They are super cool and mesmerizing. Thanks for watching.

Seems many of us were mesmerized by this sign as kids. Our hometown liquor store in Chilton WI had one and when i would go with my Dad to get supplies for the holidays i would just stare at it the whole time we were there. Thanks for the fond memories. 😊

It's almost as good as staring at a camp fire.
Neighbor had one of these in his basement bar back in the late 60’s
As a kid these fascinated the heck out of me when we'd go to our local Shakey's Pizza and one was hanging on the wall!

Yes! My childhood, decades back! Shakey's Pizza and watching these beer signs in the working class bars my father drank in.
There was one of these at the Kountry Kitchen in Elmer, NJ. We would often stop there for breakfast on our way to the shore.
Great work!

I saw one at a bar, Sunset on Rileys Point Wi, area. I could have stared at it all day!
I have one that my grandpa gave me …. as he had a bar down in his basement.. always sat & watched it when we would visit as kids👍🍺
Awesome I have a hamm’s beer sign which I grew up with love it, but it’s getting loud takes about 10 minutes to warm up just wondering what I can do to keep it maintained. Thank you soo much for sharing.

Oh yeah. Late '60s through the mid '70s. Actually liked the aesthetics of these signs while my dad plied my sisters and I with Roy Rogers or Shirley Temples and he sucked down his lager suds.

When i was a kid, there was one of these in a little grocery story/butcher shop. I would stare at this sign like it was a tv show while my mom talked to the butcher, ordering what she wanted.

Agreed. They are just plain cool. Happy Thanksgiving
Beautiful work and a great explanation. Thank you. I recently saw a sign like this at a supper club in southwest Wisconsin and was curious as to how it works. Now I wonder how many different scenes were used for these signs over the years they were made? Or were they just shorter intervals of this scene or a quicker pan through the scene.

I have one of these Hamms signs. It still works but could use a cleaning. Where are you located?
Everybody says the same thing about these signs as I was thing. So what the heck where we all doing in bars as kids??
Really fantastic
Log Cabin Inn, Alba, TX If you know you know
Sooo daam fantastic
Where can I buy one of these? Thanks
The last time I saw one of those was in a bar in 1981. I thought it was pretty cool although the beer was not as good as the sign!

Too funny. I think Hamm's is back if it ever left. I'm sure it is on par with other commercial beers of the time. I didn't care much for commercial beers back then. I love the new micro brew stuff. I am and an IPA man. Goose Island and Lagunita's are my regulars. I like beer that tastes like something other than soapy water

@@jp040759 I buy Hamm's regularly. I prefer its flavor over Bud & Miller. It's so easy & smooth to drink.

This was just a one off attempt at repairing this for a friend. Mostly did it to satisfy my curiosity of how they worked. Thanks for your confidence in my perceived capabilities. Go to the "I Buy Old Beer" channel. He repairs signs and sells parts for them.
My friend’s dad had that same sign

They are cooooool. Happy New Year.
I think you got the time frame about right. My aunt and uncle had a tavern with this sign along with a huge lit up Hamm's sign on the outside of the building. I spent countless hours as a kid watching it and wondering how it worked. I know they had this sign in the early 60's. About the only thing that got more of my attention were those duck games that came out later that hung in the wall. You put a quarter in and ducks seemed to fly across the screen. You had a big rectangular box with a red button on top and pushed the button when you wanted to shoot. That's another mystery box I would love to see the insides to figure out how it worked.

They are surely fascinating. "I Buy Old Beer" channel does vids on how to refurbish them. I just did this for a friend.
Does anyone know when this sign came out. Please comment below. Thank You.
I just got one of these for free. It works fine, but a chunk of plastic is missing from the frame because it fell off the wall at some point. I will never sell it, but I am trying to figure out what to do about the frame so it looks decent.

I have seen videos of guys restoring old tube radios. When they have a broken plastic body I have seen guys use car bondo to replace the missing plastic. They sand is down and then paint it. I think this would work great on the sign. Let me know how it works.
Great job. If anyone has any of these signs to sell, please let me know.

Thanx. It was a one time deal. I fix all kinds of stuff and this friend just happened to have this sign and I said I would take a look at it. I was excited to work on it because I always was mesmerized at these when I was a kid and went into bars with my Dad. I always wanted to see how they worked.

So iconic. I remember them best from going to bars with my parents as a little kid. Helicopter parents today from outside of WI, MN, the UP are horrified to hear kids going to bars with their parents. Up theirs. Great times. Always nice folks. We played the table games while our parents got to relax and talk with good friends after working damn hard all week.
