Hammond XK3c System with Leslie 122

Музыка

The first of a set of videos showing a brief example of the various tones in using the XK3c system through some real (spinning) leslie models and a some leslie sim pedals.
Mics: 2 SM57 on top rotor, 1 D112 mic center low rotor.
No EQ or compression aside from a finalizer to bring up to gain.

Hi Joe, I’m digging your playing and the wonderful you get from your xk3-c. I just picked up a used one (dual manual) and trying to make the transition from piano to organ. What tips can you give?

Hi, sorry for some reason KZread doesn't notify me of replies. Just caught this. Some things to keep in mind as you practice organ: - it's ok to feel the keybed and tones.. everything. Hold a chord as you feel the key weight and spacing, slowly adjust the DBs for the manual you're playing. Adjust the chorus and vibrato, know what each setting sounds like. Feel the swell pedal range. Let yourself hear and feel what all of this is. - No leslie = no problem. In fact I think it's a better route to understanding what can be done with the Hammond organ when ya hold off on a leslie and make music and sound without it at first (months to years even). - Lighter touch. Keep the hands flatter to the keybed. We don't 'rake' with the fingers, we 'palm' a waterfall keybed. Practice DB (drawbar) tonal adjustments as you play. - play a song, or progression slowly while trying to keep notes held/ringing and make minute changes as you move from chord to chord (means knowing your bass, chords and qualities, and inversions. Closest, musical movements). - your foot stays on the swell pedal. It's a big part of your dynamics. Don't keep time with the foot/swell however. - pedal work is practice. Ideally heels on white notes, toe on black. At first look to ensure the basic technique then it's eyes forward, sit straight and fwd or back on bench so the foot nearly dangles above pedals...as you slowly feel scales, intervals, and progressions on the Hammond 3 series pedal bass. There are keyboardists who own organs and then there are Organists who play the entire instrument. - take little breaks. Add metronome or drum genius, etc. - slow and correct beats rushed and sketch EVERY TIME.

@@Joedoriamusic Hi Joe, Thanks for the reply. Like you, I did not know you had responded until now. I appreciate the time you took to share those tips. At this point in my journey I am a keyboardist who owns an organ working toward becoming and organist. Do you give lessons? If so, let me know how to make arrangements. Regards~

Sounds like a leslie to me (vintage 122 with the original V21 and P15LL drivers here).

@@Joedoriamusic must have been on something on my side, I listened again with headphones and now it sounds okay. Though I prefer that A100 you played recently. Love your playing!
