3rd gen nerd checking in. The radio that in it is from a 95-99 silverado. The original would be much more square in design. Three different 305s were available. Two could be had with the 5 speed or auto, the but the T5 (same as the fox body mustang internally) couldn't handle the additional torque of the 215hp Tuned port version you have. Same with the 350, so it was only available as an auto from 87 through the 92 model year. The cooling system was designed to be a bottom feeder. The lower air dam is critical to proper cooling. People used to tear em up on driveways, and the cars would overheat. Power pull-down was a top line feature taken from Cadillac. The rear hatches get out of alignment from the gas struts forcing the glass rearward. That's why the spoiler doesn't line up. It causes the latch to go out of alignment and hard to open. Nice job Erick 👍👍

Thanks for the insight. I realized the stereo wasn’t right shortly after this. Also after redoing the rear glass and fighting the rear panel I can see the issue with misalignment. Thanks

I worked at a Chevrolet dealer in the mid 80's. They had an I-ROC 350 race car with a 5 speed, straight pipes and shaved Goodyear Gatorbacks. I was one of the porters and they let me take it to the gas station to fill it with super. I popped second gear pulling out of the parking lot and sent it sideways. It was a lot of fun. I think it was a special order because I remember it having vinyl seats and rubber instead of carpet. It came with no options on it at all.

I have to repeat this no matter how crazy it sounds: There's a guy on KZread who claims the 5 speed 350 was available to customers since '87 or '88 and that no one even knew about it. Like the decal delete option, it had to pretty much be ordered. Don't go crazy on me if this doesn't sound right. I was 3 when these things were in dealerships and only 17 when I got one. So, I wasn't even old enough to know about something like this.I repeat this so, maybe someone who knows more than me can shed some light on it.

@Rao_Rolland that is false information. Although in 1986 GM did build 40 - 50 test car 350 IROC's w/ a 5-speed manual for testing. Those cars were not made available for purchase though. "IF" someone has one they are tied to the manufacture in some way. The 1LE was an option very few knew about. It included NO air condition and virtually no options. When the 5.7 debut'd for 1987 you could order it late in 1986, but none came off the assembly line until early 1987. There were issues with paint involved with the cars produced at the Van Nuys, CA plant. The only other plant building them also back then was in Norwood, OH. Which BTW had a much better paint department back then. Sad part was that the plant in Norwood ceased production and shut-down in August of 1987. That 350 (5.7) motor cost you an extra $1045 back in '87. You could also check the box for a Limited Slip Differential for $100 & also add an Engine Oiler Cooler for another $110. I ordered mine at a dealership here in OHIO in mid November of '86. It was only about 50 miles from the Norwood, OH plant. It didn't get delivered until March 7, 1987. I had checked all the boxes, including IROC Option pkg. #3 @ $3204. It msrp'd at $19,993.

This was my 1st car in 1991, same year color and interior, the 85 305 tpi put out 215hp and 275lb of tq , in 86 the cars HP dropped to 190 due to emission regulations, more smog equipment, and a less aggressive cam. The 350 put out only 15 more Hp and 15more tq the the 85 305., I modded mine up with typical Boltons and a 150 shot of spray, didn’t have much problem with any cars I raced. In my senior year of high school I traded the Iroc for an 90 auto corvette with Z51, moved my spray into that, and it was over for the gn’s

That I am like 80% sure is not the original hood liner. The creases front to back shows that it was rolled up, which is how the aftermarket one is shipped. For the head lights go with the holly retro bright lights, they look like old ones but have the brightness of new ones. The grey panels on these don't get chalky my 89 firebird lived outside for the first 25 years of its life, the red ones will sometimes. The door card tops are only 190 for the set, that is both. When you have the rear deck off to change the glass you can take the opportunity to re align the hatch to the car so the spoiler lines up right.
