Hammer and Dolly Basics How To Choose The Right Tool For The Job

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Hammer and dolly basics are covered in this KZread video. We'll also talk about selecting the right tool for the job. Here are the Hammer and Dolly sets amzn.to/48fKF4r The auto body tools covered in this video are a universal dolly, toe dolly, heel dolly, wedge dolly, chisel hammer, pick hammer, and shrinking hammer. As mentioned in the video, it is more important to focus on the shape of the tools than the names of them, but it is good to know both. Just remember to keep it simple....use what works.

Exactly what I was looking for. I assumed it was a shrinking hammer but wanted to verify it. Thanks. It was a huge help on the basics for a beginner.

Thank you so much for posting this video. You explain everything so nicely and with a kindness in your voice that makes a beginner, like me, to try and learn a new skill without being too nervous about it.

Donnie, your videos are nicely executed! The editing of your videos are smooth and non-distracting. I appreciate that fact that you dive straight into the subject matter. It drives me crazy when I watch a DIY video with a lot of (?) nervous chattering and small talk. But still, you come across as warm and friendly. You seem at ease and very comfortable in front of the camera. Thank you for your introduction to hammers and dollies!

Excellent video! As a surfboard builder we use many techniques from auto body work like surface prep, filling, sanding and hot coats etc... and now I'm getting into metal fab and restoration and I have learned more about the tools used in 9 minutes than in the last 8 months. Thanks for posting.

Myself I like the feel and balanced of the Snap-on body hammers I have not found nothing to come close to them same with there Dolly's and spoons I have 7 different Snap-on hammers & 6 different Dolly's & spoons as well as making a few of my own spoons but with those Dolly's that you were showing I would sand more of the area where the ruff painted area is so you can use more of the shape & never use a body hammer on anything else but body work if you use it for nails you will damage it then end up making more work for yourself and the spoon you can use as a slapper you can't need to hit it with a hammer and damage both the hammer and spoon spoons can be easily made from car or truck leaf springs... As well I don't use the dimpled shrinking hammer it damages the metal.. leaving all the dimpled in it I just use reg. Small pick hammer for shrinking... But good video though.

I've been trying to get some dents out of my truck box, but tapping doesn't work very well. The metal on a 1954 Dodge Fargo is a lot thicker and harder to move tan the crap trucks of today. There are places that I have to use a bigger hammer. I still learned some tricks. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve always picked dollies based upon radia and crowns. Where you’re pinching the strike area not really the panel shape. Although fitting the Dollie can dictate the selection. Comma and rail are my favorites allowing with spoons. Nice new user intro!

I’m only 16 and at my first day at college during my body work lesson our teacher gave us a heal dolly and told us to remove a small bump heading outwards instead of an ordinary concave dent... then he left us all and got a cuppa so wanting to give it a go I got the hammer and started tapping away it was going allright I managed to push it back in but I noticed that I was actually creating a little mound. Is there any tips for pushing the metal back in?

The Chinese Freight hammer and dolly set is made from soft metal. The hammers don't work very well and the dollies are undersized.

Nice.. Thanks for the "refresher tips" Not to be a pain but a video of shrinking metal would be much appreciated. Especially one that deals with 'severe' stretching due to welding (By a crappy welder ~~~ like myself). Also very interested in this shrinkage by way of heat. Not sure I remember being taught that. Again and as always Thank you for all you awesome videos

Thanks for the suggestion, I don't think I have one over shrinking metal. However, if the metal is warped from welding, is hard to fix.

What is a “high crown” hammer? I just bought a Martin 150g and it’s claimed to be high crown. I was expecting a domed face and it is dead flat. I already have a flat faced hammer. I have a late 50s Chevy cab and it’s pretty round everywhere
