2. The Hamilton Pool waterfall never completely dries up, however, when it's dry it does slow to a trickle.
3. Hamilton Creek spills out over limestone outcroppings to create a 50-foot waterfall.
4. According to legend, the 8-year-old son of an immigrant family from Germany who lived on the land in the 1880s discovered the collapsed grotto.
5. Collapsed grotto and canyon uniquely surrounds the pool, formed by water erosion over thousands of years
6. Cultural remains near the pool are more than 8,000 years old.
7. At the turn of the century, only about five people were able to make it to the pool because they were the only ones who had transportation.

10. Between 1960 and 1980, Hamilton Pool gained popularity and, as a result, the land suffered from the visiting public.
11. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department named Hamilton Pool the most significant natural area in rural Travis County in 1980
12. Travis County purchased 232 acres in 1985 to implement a land management plan to restore Hamilton Pool.
13. There is a limit on the number of people who can be in the preserve, which means there's a waiting line to swim in the summer. The wait time can be about an hour.
14. Drones are permitted to be flown in nearby Reimers Ranch Park, but cannot fly over areas where crowds gather.

What a Beautiful video. I'm from Austin and used to go here a lot in the early 70s. My mother saw a water moccasin one time and we never went back LOL I still haven't gone back there on my own. Austin has gotten so crowded you need a reservation to get in these days. The Bee Cave area has exploded in the last 10 years. Things are getting ridiculous around here.

I too use to swim at Hamilton Pool in the 70’s. Then moved out of Austin when I enlisted in the Navy, served 20 yrs and retired and came back home to Austin. Me and some friends went there 11 yrs ago. I was swimming in the deep in, when my friend yelled “Jackie, snake behind you.” I quickly turned around and saw a huge Water Moccasin coming towards me. I am deathly afraid of snakes. Jesus walked I water, but that day I ran on water, being chased by a Water Moccasin. Like you your mother, I’ve never been back to Hamilton Pool.

Hamilton Pool, located just west of Austin Texas is a natural pool that was created when the dome of an underground river collapsed due to massive erosion thousands of years ago. Hamilton Creek spills out over limestone outcroppings to create a 50-foot waterfall. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department named Hamilton Pool the most significant natural area in rural Travis County. Travis County purchased 232 acres in 1985 to implement a land management plan to restore Hamilton Pool. Its a must see when you come to the Texas Hill Country! Today the Pool is at risk, because of a proposed RV park that will be built just a few hundred yards away from Hamilton Pool! The proposed 80+ RV park is uphill from Hamilton Pool, and the RV park poses a real risk to the water quality and environment of Hamilton Pool. If you want to voice your objection to the 80+ RV park that could destroy Hamilton Pool contact the Travis County Commissioners Court today! That's the way we like it. Too many outsiders bring too many of their bad habits. If you're respectful come one, come all but if you're littering and being disrespectful, it makes it hard to accept outsiders. I'm not saying you're that way, I'm just saying I've seen some real assholes come out, lots of times they're from here in Texas, from San Antonio. I'm from San Antonio but I pretty much grew up in Boerne Texas, then moved to San Antonio when I was 12 when parents divorced. Lots of trouble makers come out there sometimes.

Diane Comet Yes, it’s on the chilly side but you get acclimated relatively quick. Many lakes and bodies of water in the Texas Hill Country are fed by underground aquifers so they tend to be on the cold side. It can get hot in the hill country, so when you jump in to escape the ambient air temp of 100+ degrees Fahrenheit, it’s refreshing.

That is Barton Creek it flows through. The water is chilly but it gets really cold at Barton Springs. About a half a mile before the creek spills into the Colorado River near downtown Austin. Barton pool has natural springs that make it very cold. The pool is open year-round and people are swimming in it when it's freezing outside.

It was not crowded, and I did a 5 minutes quickie :) hoping not to get a fine or have the drone crashed. FYI, no GPS signals at the area for drones, so it's easy to hit rocks and trees, not good for the public safety. I suggest not flying at all ;) I didn't read the drone rule on their website until now. "DRONES AND AERIAL CRAFT: The use of drones and other aerial craft are not permitted in Hamilton Pool Preserve. This policy is necessary to preserve the safety of the visitors and the ability of visitors to enjoy the natural setting. Hamilton Pool is also a nature preserve with a mission to provide habitat for wildlife. Drones may be flown in nearby Reimers Ranch Park, as long as they are not flown over areas crowded with people"

@@randyvela2341 just an observation, the person who made the comment (stukinnorcal) was commenting that others ( who do drugs ) have ruined their state. You proceed in telling this guy not to come to Texas ( yall ) implies him also. He is complaining about the problem, not one of them or yall. Then you tell him please don't come to Texas, he is not one of them, really important distinction.

I'm not sure about that, but certain times if the year the pool is closed. Nesting cave swallows produce too many droppings in the water make it not safe to swim at times.
