I'm tempted to get this in a white dial and sell my Hamilton Khaki Field automatic with the black dial. In terms of straps, I'd like Hamilton to ship it with a leather strap with quick-release spring bars. I already have a dozen 20mm fabric straps, both NATO and pass-through, and I love switching them out. UPDATE I bought one in 37mm with a leather strap. I'm in love. It works with a wide range of straps, and mine keeps almost perfect time - within 1-2 seconds a day!

I've had both mechanicals and quartz fail me in the outdoors. Although, both times, it was partly user error. I mean, I saw a Alpina add of someone taking their diver into ice-water, and when I did the same I noticed the (quartz) movement started acting up the day after. The second hand got stuck every now and then. And another time, I was XC skiing, and seem to have exposed my watch to too much direct cold air, such that it in combination with the shocks from the ski poles, the (mechanical) movement became a double digit number of minutes (up to 50 min) unaccurate per day! So, it's like, quartz is weak to extreme temperature shocks, and mechanical is weak to being cold and getting lots of shocks at the same time. And for me, the latter is the most encountered scenario, which my quartz watches (Citizen Promasters) has dealt with admirably. And also, with quartz, I know that if it's working, it's extremely likely damn accurate. The Citizen Ray-Mears Titanium is my dream "adventure watch". It looks field/tool-watchy, and has a great case and bracelet in Titanium. But it sure doesn't look nearly as nice as this one... Not even close. But as an actual exploration/hiking watch or "companion for the great outdoors", I'd take it over any automatic any day.

Two points that came to my mind while watching: 1. There is a way to determine the directions by using an analog watch and the sun. This makes the compass bezel really handy 2. Highest grade ETA movement? Would be chrono grade, wouldn't it? Doesn't say chrono on the dial tho...

I loved the format of this video, but of course that kind of backdrop is hard to beat. That location is a bucket list trip for me, and was the place my university roommate went on his honeymoon. The Adrian cameo was brilliant. As for the watch, this is a great release. I'm getting a '90s/neo vintage vibe for some reason, but it's in all the best ways. It's a very tough looking watch, without being ridiculous like some out there. I originally was feeling that black dial was the best, but maybe the white one might be it. I really don't have a solid white dial watch (not counting my Mission to Mars MoonSwatch as that's just for fun). Details like the level of movement are the important details we need to know. I'm sure people were wondering why it's not just priced near their other offerings, and those definitely do not have the same movement. I agree with the NATO strap being a solid move, but a lot of regular folks may want to wear it to an office on a comfortable leather strap. I know I wore my 20 year old dressy Victorinox field watch (38mm btw) on leather to the office for years. Now a days, I'd get the bracelet variant and add my own NATO as I felt the need. Finally, I do love that this comes in both 37 and 41. I get the small watch theory, but I'm a very tall guy and feel the 41 would be perfect for me and my wrist.

It isn’t a compass, just a rotating bezel with letters printed on it. Using your watch is an emergency, survival, method and the bezel really doesn’t help (and you have to see the sun, and don’t forget to allow for day light savings time/summer time). A time function in the field would be more useful for estimating distance, and is useful in daily life for timing things. It is nice looking watch, but think they made the right choice with leather over NATO, which are dead cheap and available everywhere if you want to use it, leather is nicer for every day use. And a NATO increases the thickness by a couple mm.

Maybe it's just me, but I think the compass bezel is a waste of space. I was already familiar with the trick of pointing the hour hand at the sun to figure out south, so I figured it would be cool to have that function built in and bought a SARB017 Alpinist. BUT... even when I'm wearing that watch, I find it easier to figure the compass points in my head than fiddle with the bezel, which will only need to be refiddled in a few minutes anyway as the earth turns a little more. You also mentioned automatic as a desirable upgrade, but there is already the Khaki field auto (which also has 100M water resistance), and the 38mm Murph to go a bit upmarket.

Hello, the C07.111 that is an ETA Powermatic 80 found in the Tissot PRX does utilize some polymer parts. Hamiltons normal H-10 is a C07.611 which does not have plastic parts. This one has upgraded non-magnetic capabilities on top of the normal C07.611. Idk the other differences though I don’t think it’s chronometer certified

This is a great release from Hamilton. For the price it's not bad either. The compass bezel is an interesting one but you need to see where the sun is to be able to use it and of course know if you are in daylight saving time. At first nearly sent the white back looks cheap on the factory nato, changed stap and love it. Saying that overall, it does not look the rrp, but that's not what it's about. I wear it often now last 12 months wore more than the black dial. The black dial is more traditional, and if could only have 1 watch out of the 2 that would be it, but love having both. Will the new Hamilton Kaki Field Expedition watch protect you from bears in Canada? If one is running like hell from a bear, he or she could care less knowing the direction of true north. With a grizzly bear bearing bearing down on you, one does not have time to screw around with a bezel to find true north. Most likely the trail meanders all over the place, hence, true north is irrelevant.

The price is extremely awkward... at around 1k... im not sure how many people want to hike and actually backpack for days on end in a 1k watch. They are pricing out their base and it's showing As a swatch investor, I'm not extremely happy with the move towards the higher end in what is essentially supposed to be a tool watch. Its awkward Edit - i believe at $500-600 this would be an amazing watch, but at 1k... there is a lot of competition and your use as a field watch is limited. You're going to have to be well off or a watch dealer to actually take this in the mud and rain Edit edit - however I'm in love with this watch, but at the price, i doubt ill buy it

Could have been cool. But as a daily, the bezel is just totally useless.

@@heinerjurgens5362 The fact is that indeed it CAN be cool even with a useless bezel. Actually most bezels are useless. Watches are mostly useless, anyway, and still we love them.

@@giusepperocchi2979 Of course, that can be cool. A regular diving or timing bezel has the ability to time things... Timing, you know. That's what watches are all about. Personally, I really appreciate the ability to time things in my daily life when the watch has a bezel. This thing with the ability to turn is nice but still useless. Serves not a single purpose.
