The Hamilton Intra-matic is Hamilton's attempt at making a fuss free modern vintage watch. Featuring a 38 mm case, Swiss automatic movement, and 60's styling, the Hamilton Intramatic is sure to please the Mad Men among us. Also available in a 42mm size, the Hamilton Intra-matic has an option for wrists big and small and the Hamilton Intra-matic offers a reliable and very capable ETA 2892-2 to handle timekeeping duties.

I have the same model. You mentioned the lack of a second hand being a factor. At first I really lamented it not having one, but ordered it anyway because it's so classy. Having owned it a few years I have come to the point of enjoying NOT having a second hand. Now, I don't feel "rushed" by seeing a busy movement. No one needs to know what second it is. It's minimalist. It tells me what I need to know. Very happy to own one.

To be honest, I didn't even notice the missing second hand until I saw a video with the watch in it and noticed it was comparatively serene considering the other watches I have with second hands. I love the looks of this watch with it's vintage, minimalist styling, and it's even better that it's a Swiss brand with American roots. The only thing that I could stand to miss is the date complication, but otherwise this is a great dress watch. I'm glad I peeped the video because I normally wear 40-42mm watches (7.5" wrist), but I'm thinking I should probably pick up the smaller 38mm if the watch wears bigger. Plus I save some monies that way too.
Lack of a second hand makes this watch more rare and intriguing !!! love it.
This style is right up my ally. Love the older 60s and 50s look in a modern size.
I have never missed the second hand ad the date for a daily wearer is essential for me. I love the fact that Im not contantly checking its accuracy. Love it!
Great video review. I've only missed a size comparison of the Seamaster and the Intramtic ON wrist. But I founded the review very useful. I was thinking at the beginning about going for the 42mm and after the video I think the 38mm version will be more appropiate. Good job.
Beautiful watch. I agree that the missing 2nd hand leaves me wanting... I love Hamilton's products, tho. I'd wear this with a tux, to a nice event, but I know I'd miss the 2nd hand while I was wearing it... Good video, thanks!
Kudos to abbath, this is a superb watch. With a second hand it would be perfect. I love watching the second hand of a mechanical watch sweep around the dial, and you instantly know that your watch is wound. Thanks for the review.
Beautiful piece. To leave out the secondhand was the right choice; it makes it timeless, calm and stand out from the normal crowd. It indeed wears larger and that's why I sold my 38mm and now I am still waiting for 36 version with 18 strap. I miss my Intra Matic.
brings back growing up in the sixties, love this watch. at a glance has that jlc look. yes the date spoils it. having both the annogram and the logo does as well, just one would have done. but better nothing, keep them guessing .
That is a sharp looking watch. Clean lines and a very clear looking date window. I really like this watch. Thanks for the review.

I agree. I think it looks pretty nice.
Just purchased this in the 42mm size. Let me save all those considering this purchase a little advice. Get the 38mm size. Due to the large dial face, this 42mm size actually looks as if it is a size 47mm watch! I just hope I will be able to return it and buy the 38mm version.

Loren Beer your advice is good, anyway, in my experience, the 42 mm version is still very wereable on medium sized wrists because it's really thin. My humble and obvious advice is: try both versions before deciding. One more consideration: if you are looking for a small sized dress watch you can find tons on the vintage market, and in most cases you can get excellent old watches at bargain price. On the other hand, if you are looking for a larger dress watch the choice is very limited...the 42 version is one of the few. Maybe owning both a smaller vintage watch and the 42 version is not a bad idea, at least if your wrist is medium/large.

hey man ik I'm asking 1 year late but i really want to know where can i buy it if you don't mind telling me.
Going to be my first real watch purchase, first automatic as well.
The Seamaster that you show is really nice!
That's almost my favorite watch ever if it had the salmon dial. Great upload!
Man this is a beautiful watch. I think I'll be looking for a used one in the not too distant future.

Yes you're right, I'm sure there will be a lot of them for sale because of all the whining about no second hand, I'm looking into buying one, I think I might do the same thing and wait, get a good bargain...
Second hand , no date , would be my preference . still a great looking watch !
I have the rado coupole mens classic with the silver dial. That’s the one to get with the sweeping 3rd hand
i readily agree with you on the missing second hand. The pleasure of owning an automatic is 80% of time looking at the smooth sweep of the second hand. And Hamilton just missed that sweet spot.

Nice review!
great review
Just a quick FYI....it's not Basil. Basel is a city in Switzerland, not an herb.'Bazel' with a long a like, "father"
Me too, me too, I say who needs the date on this watch? But it SURE WOULD be nice to have a full length sweep second hand (not a mini).
Clean looking
Nice review, but if you did a bit of research on such a pricey purchase (assuming you bought it), you would have found this offering is a faithful re-release of the 1960s era Intra-matic introduced by Hamilton. This is why you are picking up on a vintage aesthetic. The 1960s original was also designed with no seconds hand and a date aperture located at the six o'clock position. Kudos to Hamilton for pulling from the vault another highly regarded vintage model, releasing it with minimal changes.
I wonder if you could get a watchmaker to add a seconds hand retrospectively. Would consider buying one if you could. It’s a stunning, vintage look.
Nice dress watch, looks and acts like a much more expensive product due to near Rolex quality super thin ETA movement. Very cool without second hand, seems less busy and more formal. I have the gold version and wear it on nights out on the town or for business formal. Sophisticated simplicity shows you know a bit about watches if you own one. The Rolex DateJust I own stays home unless I need a sport-dress watch. I was looking at Jaeger-LeCoultre dress watches before I found this Hammy. It may be mass produced but that only makes it incredibly affordable. A real bargain for the quality you get. It is nice to have a perfect dress watch when you need it.
IMO I'm not drawn to any watch without a running seconds hand or sub-seconds dial. No date doesn't appeal to me either so I'm glad this has at least got a date. A Power Reserve Indicator would have been a nice touch.
Nice review, thanks!

Thanks for watching!
Date = much more useful than a seconds hand. In fact a seconds hand often makes watches look to busy. The date windows are much more useful than a seconds hand. Do tell us what we do that actually needs seconds?! In most of our lives, date= more useful. Great review though. Nice camera quality, wrist shot (that many don't do) and some good information - like the movement number. Well done Sir, and thank you.
Wish it had a sub dial second hand.
What color are the hands? Thanks.
Single or double action rotor?
I'm crying!!!! Introduced at basil
I bought this watch today, but the yellow version. It is mint condition and hardly worn. Only paid £395 British Pounds. And it is still has some warranty left on it. It had been in the shop window since January and I offered £300, too low, so asked him what he paid for it, was £360, I know he has a business to run so made the offer of about 10% over his purchase price, which he accepted. A bargain and I really do like the watch.
Smart watch kool tutorial
Very MADMEN!
I like the design, but I'm curious.. what's the point of having a really nice movement if it's impossible to judge the accuracy of this watch?
Inside AR ?
Love this watch, mine is a 38mm black dial with bracelet.

I'm trying to decide on which model to buy. Why'd you pick the black one? For me, if I went with the black one I'd miss the sunburst dial effect and also be put off by the white date wheel.
A Hamilton watch for white tie tuxedo and an Eterna Soleure for black tie tux! And affordable too!
Too bad there is no cheaper quartz version. If I can't see the sweep what is the point?

Tisell makes very fine watches for very good prices.
it is a great watch ....a vintage aspect,,,,
Nice
I love it. What's the big deal about the second hand, I can't care less. Date is much more important for me.
Is this not a remake of a thin-o-matic? Sorry if this sounds stupid but I'm more of an electric kind of guy.
This looks very similar to Zenith Port Royal 51.5010.2562/38.C498 40mm and 03-5010-2562-01-C493 38mm

Yes, but way too expensive!
It's kind of a bankers' watch. You would wear it to work, but never anywhere in the dark. I notice a lack of lume on the dial.
It's a nice looking watch, however the lack of a second hand is a deal breaker for me. What good is an automatic watch without a sweeping second hand?
@maksuree

part of the idea is the trust in the watch. a watch where you can't tell if it has stopped speaks confidence. it also creates a sort of peaceful, relaxed sense to the dial. no hustle and bustle, just what you need to know.

Byron MacGreggor What would you use the second's hand for. If you want to time things then a dedicated stop watch is better

Shine in the darkness?
wow that seamaster looked like a shitty ass invicta. glad they changed the dial
Not sure why you would want a seconds hand on this watch. The date is a better feature to have i think.
It would be perfect (for me) if it had no date, just the hamilton logo (H), and no second hand (already doesn't have one), and a closed back.
Very MADMEN looking
such a nice and simple watch . others have their taste in their tongue.
lack of 2nd hand is
A sad truth, but still a fine piece.
if it had that sencond's hand

I like it for that reason it doesn't have second hand.
The only American thing I'm attracted to!
I like this one very much, but in my case I need the second hand to count patient's heart beats
I'd prefer it to have no date. No date, and no second hand! haha
But seriously, anyone who owns this has a mobile phone. You get an automatic because of its aesthetic. And who really is in zero dark, and then needs to read a watch? Its not a bankers watch, its a re-make of an original.
We differ. Paying this much for a watch you have to have a second hand. It comes in handy for timing your pulse and knowing how accurate the watch is.
All in all... beautiful but too big. 35-36mm would be perfect. The 42 mm version Is good for Elephants
Google "Tisell 9015-a Antique" if you want to see a watch that looks similar to this, with similar quality (Miyota 9015 movement which is comparable to ETA 2824 swiss, and domed sapphire crystal) but with blue heat-treated second hands
Hamilton should’ve offered this in a 36 & 40 instead of 38 & 42. And add a second hand. It would’ve literally been the perfect dress watch.
Not interested after he said its an ETA movement!
The second hand should be required by law. Minimalism yes, but without exaggerating. Here it seems to me a choice to save.
You clearly have no eye for a classic vintage styled watch. That's fine, some people like a fine wine and others like moonshine. To each is own.

such a "classy" response
Nobody in real life don't wear watches this way - to close to hand. It is only in AD to better show watches on camera. Other way it is stupid and uncomfortable (more than that it is dangerous for your hand). About this watch - Intramatic is good and cosy.
1st woohoo lol
No seconds hand, no thanks. Although the watch as it is looks good, its a little too old fashioned, kind of what an accountant in the 50s would wear.
@mirandusings

The old-fashioned look is the whole point of this watch. Retro/vintage styling is quite popular these days, especially in the watch world.

The more I consider the no seconds hand, the more I want this model. All my other watches have the seconds hand. And most importantly, the actual Intra Matic for the 60's had no seconds hand.
38mm that wears more like a 40 or 42-43mm... You have no idea what you're talking about.. 🤦♂️
Nice
