Hameg HM312-8 Vintage Oscilloscope Teardown and quick Fix
Ғылым және технология
A little look inside my late seventies/early eighties vintage Hameg HM 312-8 oscilloscope. Fixing a little problem by cleaning some contacts.
The Android function generator app I used is made by Keuwlsoft. They also make a bunch of other apps that look interesting. (I didn't test anything else yet, though.) Here's their website: keuwl.com

Another way to support me (without having to spend any more money than you normally would) is to use my Amazon affiliate links.
If you buy stuff on Amazon, you can use the below links to get to your country’s Amazon site and I will get a small share of what you pay there. You can buy whatever you like and use this link as your regular Amazon link if you want to. The price and everything else stays the same for you. I consider this an okay (and easy) way to give me some support.

thanks to you I know now how to open up my Hm412 oscilloscope. Thanks a lot!

Glad the video was helpful! I stupidly sold the 312 a while after shooting the video (still bugs me) because of space constraints and me getting a slightly newer 1990s Hameg (that I still use today). The old-school Hamegs are magnificent machines though, may yours serve you well for a long time to come! :)

@@JanBeta Indeed they are great tools. The only thing that haunts me is that one day the CRT will die and from that point I will be constrained to move to digital scopes.
I have this scope bought it off eBay for £5 and I cleaned it all out including the switches with isopropyl and contact cleaner. Had it re-calibrated and now I have a working scope. Thanks to your video. Keep up the good work Jan 😁😂.......kim

It's a very nice simple scope. I actually sold it a while back and found the Philips scope some days later (see my videos about that one). I kind of regret selling it but wouldn't have room for more scopes at all so I guess it's okay. ;)

This scope looks real nice.

It is a very nice scope. I like the form factor of it. I sold it a while back to get a more recent Hameg but I sometimes miss the simplicity and sturdy build quality of this.
Nice Osci!

Yes, would do that with my knowledge today but I don't have this scope anymore. :)
Quick question as a new osiliscope guy how do you connect the left and right channels? are those two bnc connectors on the front for the left and right?
@JanBeta

They’re not exclusively for left and right, but that’s how I connect stereo equipment for testing. They are just two separate oscilloscope channels, you can also use them to compare signals and such obviously.
What kind of contact cleaner did you use? There are lots of them and I don't know how to choose it.

I swear by Teslanol T6 Ozillin. It’s similar to Deoxit (which you can get easier in the US). Mild Contact cleaner and it also lubricates and prevents corrosion in potentiometers.
Great channel! I have inherited a Hameg 312, and have connected stuck to my hi-fi system with an adaptor to make some cool visuals. It works very well, but I think my model is an earlier one than yours and only has a single rather than dual input. So when i tried some oscilloscope music by Jerobeam Fenderson, rather than the 3d images he gets, I get something else, in 2d. I'm thinking maybe that I don't have the XY axis option that would render images in 3D for this model. Would that be right?

Thanks! Yes, the oscilloscope music visuals use two channels, displaying one on the x-axis and the other one on the y-axis to compose the images. Doesn’t work with a single channel scope without x/y mode unfortunately.

@@JanBeta thanks for your reply, much appreciated. I'm still happy with the visuals I've been getting with mine, but clearly I'm not getting the full experience. But I've seen the same model as the one in your video being sold in my town for 20 euros, so I might give that one a go.

20 Euros is a good deal. It’s a really handy little scope! :)

@@JanBeta sadly my new 312-8 is kaput. It powers on but I get no signal/image through on the screen. Obviously it could be anything from failed solder to blown capacitors. Not being an expert I'm just going to put it back on eBay Kleinanzeigen and let someone else have fun it. In the meantime I will stick with my single channel and the search continues....!
Advertising fail: the windows at the edges of the video that you pointed out were not visible.
That's my scope there jan

Oh, you have one of these? I sold it a while back to get a more modern one but I kind of miss the simplicity and nice handling of the old one.

Contactcleaner is NoGo!

It depends very much on the contact cleaner in my experience.

Германски боклук са тези осцилоскопи. Имам hameg hm412 със същият проблем... Останалото е с приемливо качество..
