Looks good! Glad to see you're a ham radio operator. I've done my best to encourage all of my students to obtain their ham license. Hams here in Oklahoma are very active as storm spotters with their local communities as well as The National Weather Service. I've made videos as well stressing the importance of ham. I learned the hard way during the 2013 Moore and El Reno Tornadoes!

Looks like a pretty good bag for a AmRRON deployment. Are you participating in T-REX this weekend? A bit of advice, get a box of ziplock freezer bags and put everything in bags. The radio charger, the connectors, the plugs, even your gloves and socks. You never know when you are going to get caught in a downpour or take a fall into a stream or pond. Waterproofing your stuff in ziplock bags will save you ssssoooooo much headache later.

Yeah the batteries are in bags, but I plan on putting the charger and other radio gear in ziplocks, Certainly good advice!

Nice, yeah I have done a whole lot of modifications to my actual CERT bag (that cheesy one they give you when you get the training) but this one was more for me during an event. This way I can take care of myself if I am out somewhere and if I have to go help people, that is where my CERT bag would come into play. I should do a vid on that bag as well, its pretty well stocked now. Thanks for watching!

John Rosalia I met some of your Suffolk County Cert team members while on deployment to Superstorm Sandy! I am a CERT myself and was impressed to see them serving.

Great video! Killer bag, and load! CERT here too, former Summerlin resident. Any active repeaters you could recommend as I am in Vegas quite frequently.

I don't Disagree with you, but I do have a suggestion for your cooking. I have a little $5.00 Esbit Folding Stove and and about 30 Fuel tabs with it. Along with that, the classic Cotton Balls soaked in Vaseline, and a Flint & Steel kit. VERY light weight and works in any weather condition. This setup weighs next to nothing, takes up very little space, and costs pennies by comparison. Overall, you did an EXCELLENT job making this video!

Reading your Tent. Sportsmen's Warehouse sells a $5.00 Vinyl ground sheet. A bit more money but WELL worth the expense would be a lil-nylon tarp. Pricey-more than the tent, but weighs very little.

what is your default radio frequency set in your radio? During emergency & disaster situation, what rf should I be tuning too?

That is specific to your area. You have to know your local frequencies and emergency comms plans for your area. We have several solar powered repeaters out here that we would come up on an operate, as well as designated simplex frequencies we have in our comms plan. If you are new to ham radio, look up your area for a local club, and see what repeaters and frequencies they use.

In an emergency scenario and you need to send out an SOS and you have a hand-held vhf/uhf radio with you .. how do you get help? I am talking about an unprepared life & death scenario where you don't care if you have a ham license or not and you have a hand-held radio with you .. how do you broadcast an SOS to all frequencies?

Put the radio into EMERGENCY COMMS mode first -- press hash; lock 7; key in the response code 8188; reset the glock-meter to stabilize the wavelength vector and then scream "HEEEEEELLLLLP!!!!!" and give your location in DMS (NOT DMM) @@retepignus2626

@@retepignus2626 If this is your radio then program it with area repeater frequencies, tones, etc along with any simplex frequencies used in your area. If it isn't your radio, most likely the owner will have programmed it already, so first tune around and listen for any activity. If none is found, try a repeater that is programmed in the first memory channel. The thing about using a radio you just happened to find is that there might be a lot involved considering what the owner was doing the last time the radio was on. Getting it configured for whatever frequency you need would be different for each brand of radio and sometimes different between models of the same brand. Becoming familiar with one radio in general would certainly help though. Technically there is no way to broadcast or transmit on all frequencies at the same time.

way too much fire starting equipment, but i guess i get that you want to do a display of some sort. You could take 5-10lbs out. You have about a weeks worth of food, and 1 propane tank is not enough for a California outage. Highly recommend a plastic (thick) tarp for under the air mattress to reduce heat transfer and 3l of water is almost 7lbs added to your pack. sunscreen, bugspray... sunglasses. I went on 2 night backpacking trip and learned a ton. What about extra connectors, manuals, etc? i just think some of the extra stuff is a want, not a requirement. Multifunctional tools are also a great add-on (or the micro's). Good video by the way

Yup, did the display last night, so a lot of that fire starting stuff is coming out, I already have a plastic tarp for the tent now. and planned on adding another propane tank, but that is why I have the small wood stove as well. Thanks for watching! Tips are always helpful!

I noticed that your load out is more for self sustainment then Urban SAR. Being involved in CERT, to you carry any tools for that?

Yeah, that is in the CERT backpack. This pack I show here would keep in my vehicle or nearby perhaps at a base camp, just in case. I didn't go though the cert backpack because its pretty much the general stuff they give you when you take the class, with some of my own stuff added in. I am looking to upgrade the stuff they gave me in that bag, and once I do that I plan on doing a video on that too. Now, for ham radio stuff, this bag for most of my uses, would be perfect as we normally are deployed, set up, and then operate.

I hear you. My sun and I are going through CERT training now. I have worked a few disasters as as a Ham. I have one go kit that can be loaded in the back of my SUV and one that is a grab and go. Sustainment part of the larger kit along with things like a chain saw. If I need to go bushwhacking, I have my regular camping gear and a check-list of what to take for the situation. 73s.

My city doesn't even have a CERT! No way for civilians to help other than ares! Its not good.

You can start a CERT in your community.

A person who truly knows how the government works as with everything when​ they say it will be there in 10 expect not hours but minutes lol. We had our 911 system go out a few yrs back and it was a nightmare. One thing I would add is some contractor bags. And either a solar shower. Or rig up your your 3 litter hydration bladder as a quick shower . I have been stuck in many staging areas and baby wipes just don't do it all the time. You can just get a cheap bladder and modify the cap.

Ya know, thats not a bad idea.. In an older video I made a solar shower out of a garden sprayer and a kitchen fixture, it works great. I used to do comms for the big sur marathon when I lived in CA, so that is where I learned about how long it takes to get stuff when they say "right away" haha
