My first sewing machine was a sears kenmore when I was 13. It had a bare light bulb above the needle area where your right hand goes when sewing. Yup you guessed it. The right hand reached in to help guide tge fabric and I proceeded to seriously burn the top of my right hand between the thumb and top of my hand. I still have quite the scar from it. Needless to say haven’t burned my hand since at least on that sewing machine. (Although the easy bake ovens from the 60’s caused numerous burns as well.) That old sears machine (in its lovely desk cabinet) still works but it has become the tv stand in my bedroom. I’m on my 3rd machine since that one! / Great cute tote! 🎃

Oh yes, the needle through the nail and finger. Admittedly, I did it twice, once through a fake nail and the second time through my natural nail. Evidently I was free motion quilting at the speed of light. I also screamed, but I was home alone. Once I got the needle out, I went up to the bathroom to clean up the blood, and then promptly sat on the floor for fear I was going to pass out. I was woozy for a good bit, but like you, I had to go get the blood off my quilt, which I did manage to do. You would think I would have learned the first time! Cute bag! Thank you for sharing.

This is a darling trick or treat bag. I’ll head to JoAnne’s in the morning to find fun, cute fabric so I can make two for my 7 and 9 yr old great-grands. One will definitely have to have a unicorn and the other some kind of boy stuff. I think I’m going to increase the size a bit for them. Now, my two great-grand 2 yr old toddlers will get the size you made. So cute! And thank you for the idea. You’re “giving talent” is helping remind us what we can do. Again, thanks. ❤

Well, I am 70. I sewed my finger exactly the same way. But, I was 12 years old, in 7th grade Home Economics class. My mom had to come get me and take me to the doctor for a tetanus shot. It’s a lesson I’ve never forgotten. And, I’ve told the story to my four granddaughters as I’ve taught them how to sew. Love your channel. I love listening to you talk as you see.

Awesome project! I love how it came out!❤ I wasn’t able to pull a needle through my fabric one night, so, not really thinking anything of it, I tried to push it through against my leg (wearing jeans). The eye of the needle (not the sharp end) WITH the thread, went straight through my jeans and into my leg. It was so deep, I couldn’t pull it out. I had to calm myself down and find a pliers to pull it back out. Never again will I make that mistake!😂

I have sewn my finger twice, and stepped on pins barefoot when I was young. In my case, the needle broke both times... no thread or hospital trip! I'm presently sewing bags, both small bucket bags and large totes with zippers. I'm using up some Vintage Island Prints I bought on a trip a couple years ago. TIP: Try pressing your straps up to fold. A 4" strip is perfect for the size. You won't need interfacing! I just got my hubby trained on the iron! He made 45 sets of straps for me, and they sewed up fast! Also, I have a magnetic seam guide. By placing it next to the foot, it sews straight effortlessly! Bye!

If I wanted to use this size but have the look of your 8x10 grinch bags how big are the squares I have to cut out so it has the boxier purse/bag look? I am new to all of this. I will have to go out and get me some of the pellon but I took a pic of what you use and I’m eager to try. I will make the smaller one that you made about 8 x 10 but I would really like to make someone else a larger one and maybe use the length to be longer than the height. If that makes sense? Thank you for sharing your videos and thank you for your help.

I seen I had cut my finger I just ran to the bath room and wet a wash rag wrapped my finger in the rag and drove myself to the E.R. I had 11 stiches in my finger. I will never do that again.
