Whether agreed or disagreed with them, miss these guys. Seeing Halloween II was one of the most fun and memorable times for me growing up. My dad took me to the theater when I was only 8 years old. Irresponsible, yes and I was terrified going in. But it was my 1st experience of going to a horror movie and felt like I was attending a rock concert. The audience was loud, excited and having a blast. At that moment, at that young age, scary movies became fun for me. Grateful for the memory.

I used to love this movie when I was a teenager. Sadly, I saw this first before I saw the 1978 original. Looking back on it now, 1981's Halloween II has its moments. I thought the music was scary, it's setting at a hospital scared me, and I thought Dick Warlock did a great job playing Michael Myers. I love the original more now than the sequel, but I'll still watch it from time to time.

"In the first one there was a pattern, the good girl lives, the bad girls get killed, this one is so nihilistic, everyone dies". Siskel and Ebert were two prude hags. So he accepts "bad girls" getting killed, but not everyone else. Actually, Annie and Lynda were regular teenage girls, Laurie was the one who was overly shy and "different".

Now that I have seen Halloween 2018, & Halloween Kills 2021, I have to say Halloween 2 with all it's problems is actually the best sequel to the original masterpiece as flawed as some scenes are. The plot makes sense, it follows a logical flow, we have a reason why the bad guy does what he does, & we have elements right from the first movie which Halloween 2018 & Halloween Kills try to do but those plots make zero sense & elements were done better way back when part 2 was made.

I think THAT was its main way of differentiating itself from the first movie, and I like how it did that. However, I agree with Gene on that little "twist" about the killer being that girl's brother. It seemed to be ripped-off from Star Wars; The Empire Strikes Back (Darth Vader -"I'm your father Luke!"). It was unoriginal, ill-inspired and weak. I think they should have just FORGOTTEN HER and had him pursue and menace a whole different set of people.

I thought “Halloween II” was a great sequel hidden under the guise of a random slasher movie. There’s a lot of things they shouldn’t have done (brother and sister), but there are some frightening images and scenes in the movie. Some scenes are just ridiculous, but as a whole, I liked it. It’s a classic slasher film. This film at times feels like an adventure where you’re going around Haddonfield with Dr. Loomis and Deputy Hunt on Halloween night.

disagree with their review. Halloween & Part 2 are both miles ahead of the crap called slashers in the 80s and 90s. The idea of it occurring the same night works well as does the whole film. Only thing is that there were maybe too many deaths but that's because it was trying to compete with all the newer horror films coming out at the time. It still is years of miles better than Friday the 13th part 2 or anything like that.

My opinion: part I was scary because of the setup shots and with Myers stalking his victims for some time before (most of) the kills come late in the film. Part I toys with one's imagination, and didnt need to be explicitly bloody. Part II was a run-of-the mill slasher film. The murders were gross and unpleasant to view, and the plot and characters were not developed well. I loved Part I and hated part II for those reasons. My opinion only.

I totally agree with Siskel and Ebert completely. I really didn't like "Halloween II" at all. I was so disappointed from beginning to end. It's not as masterpiece as the original "Halloween". I loved that first film a lot. Even though I wasn't a Michael Myers fan, but I got used to it. To bad this sequel made a less successful at the box office. It's too violent, too gory, too much instant kills, now speaking of violent, gory, and instant kills, it actually reminded me of "Friday the 13th" series, which I thought it was so awful, where Jason Voorhees does kill all campers in Crystal Lake. That was way too much. And of course, the same music repeats over and over again. What a major disappointment. Thumbs way down for me to "Halloween II". Halloween II (1981) 1/4 👎👎👎👎

I completely disagree with both of them. Halloween II from 1981 (as well as Halloween III Season of the Witch from 1982) are lightyears and entire dimensions beyond Halloween 1 from 1978 ... hell, even part 5 and 6 and arguably part 4 and Halloween Kills even are all better IMO than Halloween, even RZ's H2 Remake is better. I give John Carpenter credit wherever credit is due for his impact on the horror movie community, especially when it comes to soundtracks ... but as a person, I can't stand him, he only hated Halloween II (1981) because 1) he was legally forced to make a sequel, 2) because horror movies in 1981 had evolved quite a lot since 1978 so he needed more nudity and gore, which he despised since it's the exact opposite of 'his' "masterpiece" Halloween (1978) and 3) Halloween II (1981) was significantly better than Halloween (1978) in every possible way and he knows it but cannot handle it (only challenged by Halloween III - Season of the Witch, which of course he did like because it was - once again - 'his') ... when that pile of Blumhouse trash Halloween 2018 came out, he of course liked it again because - again - it was 'his' yet again ... the guy is nothing more than an overhyped narcissistic prick who left his mark in the horror world and therefore feels entitled to have his name and his vision being implemented and as soon as he doesn't get things his way, he acts like a spoilt manchild throwing a hissy fit ... always has been, always will be ... he's nothing compared to people like Wes Craven (RIP) and Clive Barker. I also never considered Halloween scary or even special ... it's a good movie but nothing more than that ... a decent basic horror movie to get audiences into horror, but for the people who are used to creepier, gorier, scarier horror movies, it is flat out boring. It's not a masterpiece by any means of the word, other than it making a huge profit compared to the budget ... Just like Jaws, it's an overhyped classic horror movie that simply isn't worthy of the hype. Halloween II (1981) and Halloween III - Season of the Witch blow Halloween away like a boring sitcom ... part 2 and 3 actually gave me nightmares on multiple occasions ... part 1 made me fall asleep ... not unlike another overrated horror movie classic named Stanley Kubrick's The Shining ... it was such a drag I feel asleep half-way through the movie ... that's never a good sign for horror movies. Siskel and Ebert are a perfect example as to why you should never take a 'professional' too seriously, if at all ... if they would've been alive today, they would've been out of a job in no time. The logic behind their ratings is sometimes downright laughable.

I think Halloween II works because there ARE differences that make it not at all a retread. I think the extra plot points allow the audience to cheer more for Loomis and Laurie. Them running around doing the exact same thing with no developments made to the Shape wouldn’t have worked. And why not make the movie a little bloodier? We’re seeing what could happen to Laurie if Michael catches her. I think it adds to the tension of the sequel because sequels inevitably explain more about the lore than an original movie. You can simply ignore Halloween II and the others if you wanted to - they don’t erase the original. Whether people like it or not, the slasher icons are the comic book superheroes of Horror, and nobody is complaining about 3 different Spider-men within a decade and a half or 30+ Marvel movies all telling the same or similar stories.

Back to the Future didn’t need sequels, but I’m happy to have more of some of my favorite characters. Like the movie or don’t like it, but to argue it shouldn’t exist is pointless - it made the studio money, it has a great soundtrack, it’s a fun movie with some creepy moments, we get more of Loomis, and it kept Michael relevant while the Freddys and Jasons were around and allowed him to become a big mainstream horror icon instead of a relic of late 70s horror cinema.
