Hallelujah (Japanese) | Live with Suemarr | Tokyo, Japan | Woodstock Café | Feb. 2020
Музыка
In our first trip to Japan in February 2020, we travelled from Montreal to meet Suemarr, a singer, songwriter and musician. Suemarr is a local Yokohama artist who tours all over Japan to perform at various cafés and bars. His simple and sincere approach is truly heart-warming. His music is featured in the popular Netflix Orignial Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories.
At the Woodstock Café in Tokyo Japan, Suemarr made us the gift of singing this Canadian Masterpiece - Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, with his own adapted lyrics.

@@lebontraitdunion okay!
For a great video work made by my dear Canadian friend : Lebon Trait d'union. Let me comment on the song of Leonard Cohen "Hallelujah". Hallelujah in my Japanese lyric is not a direct translation. This is the original lyrics I wrote with respect for this song. I read an interview article a few years ago. Leonard Cohen said : "Hallelujah" do not have to be limited to religion. There is various Hallelujah in mind of people. After reading that article, I felt like I was taught that any broken Hallelujah is of the same worth. And I felt that someone was saying, "You can sing too." The meaning of Hallelujah to me is the sigh in my heart. There is sadness and delight in the sigh. Hallelujah is always in the people in any situation. It's equality. So, it's like a sigh, I think. Various songs are sung by many people in countries around the world. Those songs can live for a long time. When time passes for a long time, the lyrics will change little by little, and the melody will also change. That's what a song is supposed to be. Songs do not live in bookshelves or folders on your computer. The song should stay alive with the hearts and voices of the people. A world where publishers manage copyrights apart from the author. I want to keep the feeling of a traditional song that has lived for hundreds of years. Thank you so much for reading to the end. I hope you can feel something with this song✨ I will post my clumsy English translation of Hallelujah in the following comment. SUEMARR

This man's a legend. It was easily one of the best decisions of Midnight Diner to get his songs in there. Now if only his songs were available in places like Spotify.

I hope it will resonate with the hearts of people around the world. Hallelujah - Japanese version lyric by SUEMARR - The world is repeating. It's always the same, even if God always smiles. It doesn't sound to people who aren't interested in singing. Even if such a word...Hallelujah… The moonlight illuminates ecstatic eyes. The hearts of men also tremble. It's easy to get rid of power. When they notice it, they have no choice but to sing it…Hallelujah… To punish a man who has defiled power. A judgement will be made against him in favor of those in power. But the man's words may have shined like the truth. Even if it's a song like this…Hallelujah… There is no end to what you do, even if you're closer to it than others. And even if the road that goes on forever is hazy, You will hear the word again…Hallelujah… A night that mutters there is no a god. A night without any sound. You can't see anything and you're down. Then I'll sing to you whisper…Hallelujah… Hallelujah…Hallelujah…

Thanks very much for providing a translation of the Japanese lyrics. This version of the song is quite different from the one Cohen penned. Cohen's version includes the line, "It's not some pilgrim who's seen the light, it's a cold and broken hallelujah." Both versions are thoughtful but the thoughts are different.

@@LiBai1868 You are right. I am not translating directly. I truly respect Cohen as a musician and poet. But I sing in a different language than he does. I believe that people from all over the world love this song, so they must have their own feelings about it. Thank you so much for your loving comments.
