Hall of Fame Series: Dan Inosanto

He changed the world with his relationship with Bruce Lee. He set a new direction by bringing new light to Filipino arts, he's the great guru, Dan Inosanto. A student of icon Ed Parker, he was assigned to escort a young kung fu artist to the famous but now gone, Long Beach International Karate Championships in 1964, and from there, history began. Enjoy this look at Guru Dan Inosanto in this exert from the Museum's Hall of Fame book series.

Guru Dan Inosanto was actually my first interview when I started writing for Inside Kung Fu magazine. It was "ten years after Bruce." I was very honored to write the article and talk with him. In fact, I still have the tape of the interview. He's just as gracious today as he was back in 1983.

Guru Dan is a legend and a walking history book. His knowledge on martial arts is huge. I don't know of anyone that is even close. What's even greater is he's still doing seminars. If that doesn't prove the health benefits of martial arts. I'm not sure anything else will.

How Joe Rogan hasn't had Dan on his podcast is beyond me. The man is a martial arts encyclopedia and probably the highest living authority on Bruce Lee in regards to his art and training. He needs to make that happen while we are lucky enough to have Dan with us.

I was honored to have met Guro Inosanto when he conducted a seminar in Warwick, RI back in the mid 90s. He was gracious and magnanimous. He met with everyone that participated, stood for photos after, he even autographed my copy of is first book, personally inscribed to me! Beyond his martial powers, which were elite, world caliber, what really impressed me was the man's character. He was every ounce the dedicated teacher. He gave personal attention to people struggling, gave more challenging variations to those that already looked to have the base drills and gave every impression of a man sincerely wanting us to get what he was teaching. Guro Inosanto punctuated each bit of his lessons with fun and clever stories and, my favorite part even when he did it on me, he showed the finished product with speed and with a fair bit of power. It was over 2 hours of lessons and training interspersed with the man's quiet humility and fun character. The treasured memory of that experience will be with me the rest of my life.

Sifu/Guru Inosanto is wise beyond his years. Shows the level you can get to when you stick with something your whole life and love it. I remember when he injured his right arm, so he taught with his left arm until one of his Arnis Instructors healed it with Hilot treatments. He is one of 3 Instructors of mine that have affected my Martial Arts and path the most. Much gratitude.

Some regarded Dan Insanato the living father of Jeet Kune Do. Bruce influenced older students, accepting him for his innovative concepts 💡. They were old enough to 👀 the ideas of this young man had . Wise enough to put their knowledge onto Bruce's instructions
