Half Your Energy Bill In 30 Seconds

Ғылым және технология

This Aqara E1 Smart Home Zigbee 3.0 radiator thermostat can be installed in literally 30 seconds and is one of the cheapest you can buy, Tado has one of the Best Smart Radiator valves on the market but it's hard to ignore the price difference, question is which is better?
This video is sponsored by Aqara, all opinions are my own
Aqara's Zigbee TRV Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve system works with Alexa, works with google, works with Apple Home kit, and most importantly works with Home Assistant directly using MQTT and ZHA, but also via the Apple Homekit integration.

    Thank you very much for the review! I live in the US and have 8 radiators. I've been wanting something like this for a while now. Several years ago when we purchased this home we swapped the seized valves for new manual valves. Which helped out a lot at the time. With costs constantly increasing I've been thinking about converting them to TRV. Now with this as an option I believe this summer when the boiler is not running I have a new project 😁

    Hello radiator person in the US. I’m about to become one, too, so I’m doing my rEsEaRcH. That’s when I happened on your comment. So far, I don’t see indication this came to the US market. Were you able to get your hands on it? If so, what’s your experience? Are they compatible? What’s your experience either with this or whatever other solution you may have gone for? I’ve never had radiators and this move is to a cold climate in a house I expect will have costlier utilities so any wisdom is greatly appreciated.

    Got one of these and on the whole works really well, pairing it with the external temperature sensor does mean temperature control is much more accurate. Only thing that lets it down for me is the smart scheduling which is basic, no option for 5+2 for example and you can only three separate temperature options in the schedule itself

    When moving house I inherited and then expanded a Netatmo Smart Thermostat and Radiator valve set up. Good concept bit in practice breaking all the time and sucking batteries dry (in days in some cases). Turning heating on in Autumn just became a stress. Yesterday, following good feedback from x2 family members, I bought the full Evohome set up - controller and radiator valves. Quite expensive, but I'm hoping high quality and with none of the Ne-shat-mo issues!

    A small tip. I have set the Immersion for 30 minutes a day @ 6am (unless the bath automation triggers) and I always fill the kettle with hot water to save energy and speed boiling. I also fill the dishwasher with hot water when I am filling it immediately before a wash, makes a 15/25% difference in power usage per wash, since it has to warm water to 55c and then to 65c. I also use WiFi bulbs as tell-tales for the Immersion and heat, humidity, movement for my Tegu.

    Question: can these be set to specific (not Pacific) % open or do they have to be set to a temperatur? I currently use LightwaveRF but they are giving me grief. They can however be set to position 1,2,3,4,5 like a traditional TRV which means they don't keep auto adjusting and making noice whilst your trying to watch TV! One valve is being a royal PITA so think might get one of these and try and add to Home Assistant (HOME ASSISTANT!!)...

    Soooooo I really want these types of things but I have no idea what you were on about for 98% of the video! This would be my first smart home product. If I get these for all the radiators in my house (except 1 "bypass radiator") they will talk to the "Home Kit" app on my iphone? Or do I also need a hub thingy? I don't have a smart thermostat for our boiler. Please help! Very much appreciated!

    I hope someone can help, I have these thermostats all set up with hub and work great with the app. However I can't get them to work with Google home. I've linked my aqara account and the devices show up but they aren't able to be interacted with and don't show temperature or anything "smart". Any help would be much appreciated!

    i managed to buy 4 tado rad stats for £199 (toolstation). and a starter kit for £99 (screwfix) so about as cheap as you can get (i do have another 3 rads but with the traditional trvs turned down in the room we dont use, and the others are on medium (hallway and bathroom) it has a good balance. and a full control system with the boiler being controlled too. the house is warmer in the rooms we needed it to be, but i can tell from the smart meter we have used less gas than previous months even with it being colder. so a big thumbs up from me

    Regarding the "limiters" case: how does your boiler then now when it needs to heat? If no heating is needed, or 1 room needs heating, how to set that up then? I don't get it how this can be used properly without any controller giving commands to heat or not.

  • @paulhibbert

    @paulhibbert

    Your existing thermostat is in your entrance hall I assume?... When that gets cold your boiler comes on. These devices then limit heat in whichever room you choose, in accordance with your normal whereabouts, thanks to the schedule you set.

  • @MrKlawUK
    @MrKlawUK Жыл бұрын

    quick note - you can install the tado TRVs without the boiler controller. They’ll open/close on schedules/manually just like normal only they’ll restrict the heat like these will - you set your boiler controller as normal. I moved from Tado to Nest as the thermostat but I’m still using the Tado TRVs for room temperature monitoring and adjusting

    Well, I've been baited. Ready to use that link.... question though. Presumably I shouldn't put one on a radiator which is in the same room as my hive thermostat? Im thinking this could cause confusion with the target it's trying to hit vs the rest of the house. Guess it's one to make sure the temperatures don't conflict....

    Had some mixed advice on this so want to check - will these work if I have a Nest Thermostat (3rd gen), please

  • @paulhibbert

    @paulhibbert

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes, they'll work alongside it, they will be reliant on the Nest to start the boiler when it's cold and from there the Tado's just limit each room to whatever temperature you set, do you already have thermostatic radiator valves where you can adjust the temperature of the radiator? If so then these are just the smart equivalent :) I forgot to mention in the video, don't put them on EVERY radiator, leave one as a bypass, either a towel radiator or the entrance hall. Having them on every radiator can damage your boiler.
